Quick question from a newbie striker

I'm so excited because I've always wanted to be part of a strike. However, I do have some questions.

I'm starting University soon (I'm 34 for reference, going back to finish my degree). I have a work study job that involves helping people with writing term papers, etc. Obviously, I'm full solidarity 100%, so I'll do my part.

Okay, the questions:
1) Would attending my classes be considered crossing the picket line?

2)If I still worked with students on my own time without getting paid with their writing, would that be considered crossing the picket line?

3)What, in your experiences, are the best ways to get students and faculty to join the movement?

This is going to blow up

I'm talking to people on job sites. Not talking about just the workers. Bosses too. As soon as they hear there's a possible strike brewing their ears perk up.

It's in the air you guys. Seriously get more flyers out there. It's gotta be more in the public eye. Word of mouth still works and people are fed up. This is tapping into something deeper. Don't stop.

A poster concept for getting rural Republicans on board. Fun fact: The Pro-Republican magazine Lincoln’s friend ran employed Karl Marx as a correspondent.

I've been waiting so long.

I do not know the background, ideology, race, religion,
Culture, or gender of anyone here.
And I don't have to.
None of it is important.
What is, is this above all else,
Is an actual (never thought I'd see it)
Unified front!!!
A formation of country men and women
Rallying under a common goal of forcing the system and those who control it to change the rules.
I truly hope anyone part of this understands the importance of what this can be.
As well as the seriousness of its implications.

There can be great reward, and great defeat.
But it is worth the risk.
We are worth the risk.
This is really a wonderful thing.
I will get the word to people I know.
And who can organize it in my area.

I’ve posted information about the strike here and it’s received thousands of upvotes and I’m getting a lot of feedback and am overwhelmed with trying to respond to everyone who is interested- can any of the organizers and folks here help me out with this? It’s been super productive so far I think- but just too much for one person 🤩

Misinformation about striking

I’ll come right out and say i am not in support so listen to whatever you like. I saw a lot of plain out wrong things being posted here so wanted to address. I think lack of leadership along with too big of an ask will torpedo this thing.

Unionized workers can not strike in any circumstances within the dates of their CBA. Some contracts do have language that says unionize employees can not cross picket lines but that defense is dicey. Also depending on jurisdiction unsanctioned strikes are illegal and can result in jail time.

Non-union employees in at will states can be fired pretty much when their PTO expires. There are plenty of retaliation laws to protect but it absolutely comes at great risk. If you exceed your PTO you can be fired.

If you are going sick-out route actually go to the doctor in the morning and get a note(even if not required). Depending on size of this it could save you. Follow all sick time protocol of your company and submit the note. Do know if there is a trend where a company can declare sick-out union and non-union can be fired.

I would also suggest y’all commission a lawyer to write all this up so people understand the risks.

Be safe

Opinion: Absolutely Everybody has to strike.

tl;dr: Everybody needs to participate in the strike for it to work and we need to empower every person to do it.

Fuck yeah guys I’m excited that we are doing a national strike for our workers rights. The time has come and this is our first step to freeing ourselves of the shackles of capitalism. I am thrilled for the change in our favor finally!

However I’ve been reading on here “if you can’t strike” this and that. And I understand the sentiment. It is a tough thinking about the risks of not working. And not wanting to guilt people for feeling nervous or afraid for the security of their home or family. I understand. But the people who practically own us, our homes, our cars, and our right to education rely on that fear.

That is why I think absolutely every single American needs to go on strike. All of us are under paid in this country, even if you do make more than $20 an hour. I think food service and customer service should be one of the highest paying jobs out their because it is so mentally and physically exhausting. Teachers should be revered like in other countries! And we shouldn’t be so afraid of asking our employers for livable wage and livable hours thinking we’ll be fired. Why would that be a fear? Our jobs don’t own us.

So please don’t let them I beg you. They are relying on people not participating in the strike and having small numbers. There is strength in numbers!!! You’ll feel so empowered when the entire country is standing with you ( minus bezos )

So let’s end the abuse of the working class. Four day work weeks. 12 weeks maternity leave. Health care. $20 an hour. Environmentally friendly only world. 25% corporate tax.

God bless and long love the revolution!!

How can we make it more feasible for people to strike?

Title. I saw in another sub basically explaining how the commenter in an upper middle class office job takes the day off, they’ll just subtract it from his PTO and tell him to let them know in advance next time. For your average worker at Walmart, McDonald’s, etc, they can probably be fired very easily (despite any rightful protections they might have).

So, how do we introduce a sort of security for these people that might lose their jobs, so that we can get more people to participate? A large-scale mutual aid would be great for this but it doesn’t feel feasible. Obviously, local community events providing food and housing and such are good ideas but hard to standardize in anyway across the country to make them available for everyone. Does anyone else have ideas for the ways in which we can make this actually possible for everyone? We need as many people as possible to stop participating in the economy in October, and it’ll be very hard to convince the workers that have a lot on the line here.

HELP: Printing Off Flyers to Litter Around Town

I'm trying to print this into 4 sheets per page front and back in Word. Does anyone know how I can do that quickly?

Remember to use libraries to spread awareness

At the library you can print out things for only like 10 cents. They also sometimes have boards where you can but up flyers I think.

TRUCKERS

hi, noscript says it all. A majority strike would be great if we can pull it off, but if we can figure out how to convince truckers to strike, even for a short period, it would have massive ramifications for the economy!

I've done some research- tuckers have successfully striked and it led to better work conditions, but the industry is hip to this now and it is a lot harder and more dangerous to strike as a trucker.

If anyone has some ideas, or knows a trucker to help us out that old be great!
