What you can do to help prepare and participate
\-Find people in your state to organize in the state directory or join the Discord to find people in your area.
\-Here are links to social media platforms. Please follow/like/comment/share/join https://linktr.ee/generalstrikeoct15
\- Print out flyers. You can do this at your local library or use FedEx printing services. Downloadable files to have printed are available here on the strike's website. Put them on your neighbor's doors. Go to nearby large apartment complexes and put them on people's doors. Put them near community mailboxes. People will likely take them down, return and put them back up. It is illegal to put them directly in people's mail boxes
Example: At FedEx you can put 4 flyers on one page, include cutting the flyers, full color, total was $32 for 50 pages or 200 flyers.
\- Keep flyers with you. When you go places, put a flyer on the cars around yours. Many businesses do not allow canvassing, so be stealthy.
\-Join the mutual aid coordination effort in your area. Contact mutual aid groups in your area. www.mutualaidhub.org is a great resource or join the discord.
\- Share it on every social media platform you can think of. TikTok, Reddit, Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, Twitch, YouTube. And keep sharing it over and over! Don't lose momentum. We have to keep spreading the word for the next 3 months until the strike. https://linktr.ee/generalstrikeoct15
\- Talk to your coworkers, if it is safe to. Be careful! Even though companies legally cannot fire you for organizing or striking, that doesn't mean it will stop them. Businesses do illegal stuff every day.
\- Find the social justice and mutual aid groups in your community and tell them about the strike. Ask them how you can help. Ask them for support and to join the movement.
\- Coordinate mutual aid with friends, family, neighbors, and coworkers. Arrange for childcare, help people have prenoscriptions picked up and a stocked kitchen before Oct 15. Donate to food banks and work with mutual aid groups in your community to make sure people have access to food and water. Gather resources and pool them so they can be distributed as needed during the strike.
\- Do not work starting on Oct 15. Requesting and taking PTO in advance is fine! Anything and everything helps!
\- Do not buy anything starting on Oct 15. Do not participate in the economy.
Other important points:
Unions: Unions represent about 10% of American workers. The other 90% are unrepresented. This strike can absolutely be successful without union support. It is unlikely that unions will ever support a general strike at this point in late stage capitalism. We must press forward with or without them. 90% people! We have the power.
Length of the strike: This is not a one day strike! General strikes go on as long as they have to until the demands are met.
Minimum wage and prices: Prices continue to go up regardless of what the minimum wage is. This argument is outdated and totally debunked. Just look around. We are already living in a world where the minimum wage is stagnant but prices are rapidly increasing anyway.
Who is leading this movement and strike? We all are! Yes, the movement is decentralized, anonymous, and grassroots. It is unlikely that organizers will ever make their identity public, so let go of that now. Each and every one of us needs to be a leader in our lives and in our own community! Act as if you ARE the leader, because you are!
Thanks,
\-October Strike

I suggest an added term: Take half the wealth of the Uber-Rich (the top 1%) and give it to the bottom 50%. We'll call it the "Trickle-Up Policy". Every person in the bottom 50% would get a check for $125,000.
According to "Why Nations Fail" by Acemoglu and Robinson, nations collapse when they have a certain level of wealth and income inequality.
The scientific measure for wealth and income inequality is called the "Gini Coefficient", and right now the US is at .49 on the Gini scale. At the current rate, we are headed for French Revolution levels (.69) within the next 7 years. The French Revolution was a bloody time, with mass executions and huge power vacuums filled by maniacal leaders (eg. Robespierre).
A possible solution to our current wealth inequality situation would be to redistribute wealth from the top 1% of wealthiest Americans, who OWN AS MUCH WEALTH AS THE BOTTOM 90% COMBINED.
#### If the top 1% gave half of their wealth to the bottom 50%, every person in the bottom 50% would receive $125,000.

Help explaining increased minimum wage
I really need help explaining why we need to increase minimum wage because my friend has come at me with oh people with degrees don't make that much and my boyfriend works at a factory and he doesn't make that much. But I feel like everyone's wages should go up and I don't know how to explain that.

Corporate tax rate
Genuine question: why are we only demanding 25% when biden is trying 28% and it was 35% before trump? shouldn’t we aim higher?

12 weeks parental leave instead of just maternity leave, it’s a super easy adjustment and is much more inclusive to fathers and LGBT parents

Flyer suggestion
So I been listening to the Great Courses Plus' History of Russia: from Peter the Great to Gorbachev and the lesson covering the 1905 revolution had an element that struck me and helped a wide range of political polities join together.
That element was Respect, respect for every worker and that is an element we should be using as the tip of the spear to get our point across, we want and demand respect as people and that means a living wage and a personal life.
We should be demanding that respect as the critical reason for our actions and that all workers and people need to be respected.

Infrastructure?
How are the plans for infrastructure such as feeding participants and what unions are going to participate in order to make it a lawful strike.

I bought a 30 pack of NFC tags and I have decided to put the website to the general strike and stick them all over my town. Do you think this will help spread awareness or will it be a pointless endeavor. Maybe others can get involved to spread the message. Just a thought.

Sick days/leave?
I'm not sure if it would be too much to add, but I've seen paid parental leave talked about but nothing at all about sick days/leave. Which is something I feel like should be discussed, especially after the pandemic.
Most places don't give you sick days which is what leads most of us to work through being sick which takes a toll on us physically and mentally. When you're too scared to miss a day because either you need the pay, you can't miss without being fired, or you can't miss without other consequences- retaliation with less hours/ being made to do the tasks/jobs you don't normally do/separating you from coworkers etc.
I feel like we should be discussing paid sick leave/days.
I'd love to hear feedback on this and see what others think about it as well.
