Here is a prime example of what you can do with repurposed materials and tools. Here is a furnace I made to melt lead to cast bullets and electroplate with copper. I repurposed an ammo can by cutting a hole in the front, welding down the lid and welding on a propane driveway torch I bought from china freight. Then lined the inside with fire brick and kaolin. I am able to achieve temperatures in excess of 3,000°F when a fire brick is placed in front of the opening. Get out there and start making your own tools. Not only will you improve your engineering skills, but you will add valuable new tools to your inventory.
Bullet primers will ultimately be the biggest hurdle for all who want to make their own ammunition. Primers are coated with a very dangerous combination of nitrated compounds. Smokeless powder is similar, in that it is often a mixture of nitrocellulose and nitroglycerin and can be very dangerous to produce without proper equipment and safety guidelines. Buying these items pre-made and in bulk, is a smart idea
