Many inverters come with a "dry contact" that you can use for a generator start. This is not exactly true. The problem is that when voltage gets below the start point, the dry contact will close. As soon as the batteries charge a tiny bit, the dry contact will open and shut off the generator.

For a typical inverter "dry contact" to work as a gen start, you need at least an "off delay" relay to ensure that if the generator starts it will run for ~30minutes once triggered to start.

More advanced inverters will have programming that includes warm up and cool down, and min run time.

I'd like to get a weigh in from the group on something. A buddy here and I were discussing his tiny house and he said he'll use a mini split for air conditioning but he will use electric oil immersion heaters in the winter. I advised him to use the mini split because the electric resistance heater is only 100% efficient but COP on heat pump is 3:1 or 5:1 depending on outside temperature.

Hey I got a local guy who bought the wrong victron Multiplus II unit and would like to sell it. Never been in service. 3.5kw, 120voutput, 48v battery unit. Wants $1000 OBO. Perfect unit for an RV. Can be stacked with another 3.5kw unit.

My friend's problem is that you can't mix and match these units and he has two additional 5kw units that he cannot use with this one... so he will replace this unit with another 5kw unit.
