Many famous landmarks are in danger of rising sea levels within a decade, according to a peer-reviewed study - which claims that the current global warming trajectory of 3°C would affect 10% of the world’s population by 2030, more than 300mn people.

The study published in Environmental Research Letters modelled water levels for different temperatures; 3°C hotter, and it would reach Buckingham Palace’s 2nd floor, but 1.5°C higher would only reach the ground floor doors.

The Pentagon, Tokyo Tower and the Tower of London would also be threatened. To keep temperatures to a 1.5°C rise, global emission must fall by 45% from 2010 levels by 2030; at present, they are set to rise 16%.
