A large company in the UK engaged in testing for Covid-19 is under investigation after it turned out that it planned to sell swabs with customers' DNA to third parties.

Cignpost Diagnostics, a government-approved testing provider, has provided up to three million tests at a cost of £35 each since its founding in June last year.

Cignpost said it intends to analyze DNA samples to "learn more about human health," develop medicines and products, or sell the information to third parties, according to company documents.

According to the report, customers were not clearly informed that their medical data would be used for purposes beyond Covid-19 testing. Instead, they were simply asked to tick a box to agree to a 4,876-word privacy policy that links to a separate document describing a "research program."
