Very great point brought up by a FB follower:
Important info about the book, Gender Queer: p. 157 contains the web address of an adult website (in addition to p.116-117 portraying erotic books and adult material as wonderful). It is a crime to encourage and/or aid a minor in doing something illegal (in this case, visiting adult websites). Even school administrators who like the book should be concerned about legal liability for this, even if they explain away and excuse the images.
Check your county, most likely happening nationwide.
