PM Johnson Warns of Omicron “Tidal Wave” as UK Raises Covid-19 Threat Level

Boris Johnson has branded the UK’s wave of the Omicron Covid variant “an emergency” with cases doubling every 2 or 3 days, moving forward the deadline to deliver booster jabs for 18+ by a month to the end of December.

The UK raised their five-stage Covid threat level from three to four on Sunday. Level 4 means "transmission is high and pressure on healthcare services is widespread and substantial or rising.”

A reported 42 military teams will be deployed to cope with the massively expanding vaccination targets as measures including vaccine passports and mask mandates are brought in.

MPs will vote on Tuesday over passing the proposals as law as Johnson faces a backlash from his own party members.
