There was a time when Moses (in exile from Egypt) was made general the army of Cush. It was constructed during the Belle Epoch, which dates from the mid-1800s to WW1 and is regarded by some as the apotheosis of European artistic culture. Having spent the last week researching architecture from this period, I'm inclined to agree — at least as far as architecture is concerned.
