RIP Nissan Altima (1992–2025):
Once the reliable mid-tier sedan that helped parents dodge minivans and commuters dodge SUVs, the Altima’s long highway exit is finally happening. After more than three decades of duty — multiple generations, a turbo engine, and even all-wheel drive — Nissan is pulling the plug.

In 2025, Nissan killed off the Altima’s 2.0-liter variable compression turbo engine, leaving only the mild-mannered 2.5 L 4-cyl under the hood. Meanwhile, Nissan reportedly plans to retire the entire Altima nameplate after the 2026 model year, as the company shifts gears toward electric vehicles.

So here’s to the Altima — the car that said, “Yeah, I can haul your groceries… but I’m not boring enough to be a Camry.” May it cruise off into the sunset, leaving behind a legacy of solid reliability, CVT jokes, and slightly disappointed driving enthusiasts.”
