We should spend maslenitsa as the Church blesses. The Church blesses the Church services in which we hear the lament, "By the waters of Babylon…" and "Open to me the doors of repentence…" But the Church also blesses the gatherings and cheer of maslenitsa. Even in parishes where there are many children and young people, if circumstances allow, festive gatherings are organized. Cheese week can be combined with pancakes, horseback riding, song, games, and dances.
The Church is a living organism. When a person stands before the chalice of Christ he trembles from the understanding that he is not worthy, but at the same time he rejoices that he will now receive Communion. One is united with the other in an inconceivable manner. This is a testimony to authentic life in the Church. The Church is a living, amazing family with many individuals and voices. The Lord calls to all in it: "Repent, for the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand!" But He also says, "Rejoice!" There should definitely be both. There should be both inhalation and exhalation. But everything has its own time. It is wisely established that before Great Lent, before the strict first week, there is a time to "breathe the air," an opportunity (before remaining alone with your sins, before you begin the difficult ascent) to look around, meet with friends and family, and rejoice that they are near.
It is necessary during these days not to abandon prayer. Furthermore, the Gospels and Epistles should be read attentively. Going to church services also help us to find the right answer to the question, "how much fun may I have," to discover within our souls the limits of understanding this joy. If you cannot go often to church, then you can read the Gospels and Lenten Triodion—this will be useful for daily prayer and instruction.
The Church is truly vast, and there is room for everyone in it: for ascetics and strict fasters, but also for people who live in the world or who only go to church. Little children also need consolation and pleasantness. Adults—those who have already matured in Christ—seek quietude and concentration. The main thing is that both are penetrated with love for the Lord. Consolation can become unrestrained, consumerist, if it loses a sense of measure. This measure is the love of Christ. We repent when we look at His image, but we also rejoice to behold Him

Gregory Dialogos
Saint Gregory was born in Rome to noble and wealthy parents about the year 540. While the Saint was still young, his father died. However, his mother, Sylvia, saw to it that her child received a good education in both secular and spiritual learning. He became Prefect of Rome and sought to please God even while in the world; later, he took up the monastic life; afterwards he was appointed Archdeacon of Rome, then, in 579, apocrisiarius (representative or Papal legate) to Constantinople, where he lived for nearly seven years. He returned to Rome in 585 and was elected Pope in 590. He is renowned especially for his writings and great almsgiving, and also because, on his initiative, missionary work began among the Anglo-Saxon people. It is also from him that Gregorian Chant takes its name; the chanting he had heard at Constantinople had deeply impressed him, and he imported many elements of it into the ecclesiastical chant of Rome. He served as Bishop of that city from 590 to 604.

Somebody said "the Bible is complete", it's an echo of the sola noscriptura heresy. In Christianity only Christ has FULLNESS (Col 2:9, 'pleroma' in Greek), not any book about Him — and the Church has, being His Body (Col 1:24).

☦️ Unique frescoes of the abandoned cathedral in a distant rural area. A Moscow girl felt zeal to revive it, and succeeded. Services are held on a regular basis there now.

Saint Porphyrios used to say: “When there are many children in a household, each child must be cared for separately. If, for example, you have two daughters, one should not see you nursing or bathing the other, because they become jealous, and this passion is created from a young, tender age.”
Regarding television, he said that it is better not to have it at all.
About a baby’s crying, he said that on the first day it cries you should let it be and not pick it up, because you will spoil it. And he would say: “A baby’s crying is a song. The vocal cords also open up.”
Concerning toys, he said that parents should not bring them all out at once so that the child does not know what to choose first and eventually get bored of everything. Instead, they should bring out one toy for a week, then a second, a third, and so on.
He emphasized that there should be no religious pressure on children, because afterward children react against it. A father, for example, could say: “I’m going to church, and whoever wants to may come…”
We should not use force on children. Of course, this applies after a certain age—not to infants and very young children.
