He was a French married layperson, Franciscan tertiary, and is the only canonized king of France. He forbade blasphemy, gambling, usury, and prostitution. He insisted that those charged with a crime are presumed innocent until proven guilty. He allowed beggars to eat from his own table. He fed 100 poor people everyday. He served the lepers. He established hospitals for the sick and blind and houses for reformed prostitutes.
