Heavenly Father,

I don’t think this is any sort of news flash, but in case you were wondering: we are living in wicked times.

You can’t turn on a TV in your home or open an app on your phone without being exposed to some sort of godless propaganda.

Just this weekend I was watching an episode of Spidey and His Amazing Friends with my two-year-old when I spotted a new character, Jerry, who was clearly going through some sort of identity crisis. The character was portrayed to physically resemble a male, but the voice was undoubtedly female. Sure enough, the other characters began referring to Jerry using “they/them” pronouns.

My heart burned as it sank.

I furiously Googled to confirm my discovery. “Jerry, voiced by: Hayden Bishop. Bishop is non-binary and uses both she/her, he/him, it, and they/them pronouns.”

I looked over at my baby boy who was, thankfully, none the wiser. For all he knew he was just enjoying some downtime with his mama and his best bud Spidey.

As the light from the TV glittered on his tiny, perfect face, my initial devastation shifted to full-on anger.

“This is how they’re doing it,” I raged to myself, “They’re just making it normal.”

Sure, sometimes it’s loud and flamboyant and unmistakably in-your-face, but when it comes to our children, they are taking calculated subliminal shots. The more they can casually incorporate the agenda, the more desensitized our children will become to it.

It is a deliberate attack on their innocence.

Which leads me to this:

“Whatever is fighting for our children will win them.”

I have no idea who said this originally, but it is the plain ole truth. If we are not fighting for our children, something or someone else is.

"Don’t be afraid. Remember the Lord Who is great and awesome. Fight for your families, your sons and daughters, your wives and your homes." (Nehemiah 4:14)

If we are not leading our children to the truth, something else will lure them with lies.

If we are not teaching them, they are learning from someone else.

If we do not ready them for battle, they will become hostages to the enemy.

1 Peter 2:9 calls us a “peculiar people” for a reason. To be peculiar means to be strange or odd; special; or uncommon.

I don’t know about you, but I’m all for being the odd man out. In fact, I want to be the weirdo. If being considered strange is synonymous with protecting and setting a precedent for my children then I will gladly echo King David in saying, “I will become even more undignified than this!”

A war has been declared on the hearts and minds of our children.

If you’re not already, it is time to get involved. It’s time to step out onto the frontlines and do things differently. Stop paying the companies that stream this junk. Cancel your wifi. Throw out the TV. Get a flip phone, whatever it takes.

No more turning a blind eye.
No more blending in.
No more going quietly.
