“I can now confidently confirm that a U.S. Air Force F-15 was shot down at dawn on Wednesday by Iranian air defenses. The two pilots ejected successfully over Iran.

Following the incident, U.S. and Israeli combat search and rescue teams, which were on standby in a neighboring country, entered Iran approximately one hour after the F-15 crashed. (This section will be commented on in a later post.)

In the subsequent operation, both pilots were located and safely extracted without further incident and transported to Prince Sultan Air Base in Saudi Arabia. They were then airlifted to Jordan for further medical treatment.

Further confirmation and details about the incident are expected to be released later by U.S. Central Command. and Israeli air force combat search and rescue teams - which were on standby in a neighboring country - were called and entered Iran about an hour after the F-15 crash. In the ensuing operation, both pilots were found and safely evacuated without any other incidents, and transferred to Prince Sultan Air Base in Saudi Arabia. They were airlifted to Jordan for further treatment.
