🗓 Today marks the 23rd anniversary of the liberation of 144 Lebanese prisoners from the colonial Khiam prison camp and torture center just days before the zionist occupation was driven out of southern Lebanon.

The prison was run by colonists and their allies since its inception. In the 1930s, it held rebels against the French occupation, and in 1985, invading zionists and the SLA turned it into a brutal torture facility. Over 5,000 Lebanese people, including 500 women like revolutionary Suha Bechara, who resisted the zionist occupation of Lebanon would be imprisoned and tortured at Khiam by electrocution, waterboarding, and other brutal methods.

The liberation of Khiam prison was a critical aspect of expulsion of zionists from southern Lebanon and its consequent liberation. Khiam and its prisoners were not freed by any one army, but the whole of Lebanese armed resistance that swiftly toppled the zionists in 2000.
