"In an era dominated by rapid communication and fleeting interactions, the need for thoughtful engagement has never been more pressing. The pace of modern life often leaves little room for careful reflection, critical thinking, and meaningful dialogue. To build a society that values understanding, diversity, and genuine connection, we must intentionally slow down our conversations and create spaces for civil discourse."

In our rapidly evolving digital landscape, the velocity of information exchange has reached unprecedented heights. While this immediacy offers numerous advantages, it also presents challenges for our capacity for deep, reflective thought and meaningful dialogue.

The CEO of Gab, Andrew Torba, announced that:
The UK Government has demanded that Gab submit to their new censorship regime under the UK Online Safety Act, threatening massive fines (18 million euros or 10% of our annual revenue) for not policing speech.
We will not comply. We will not pay one cent. We will defend our UK users' right to speak freely and reject any law that compels censorship. Their letter and the response from our legal team is attached.

How “Adolescence” offers us a peek inside the machine
I wrote about Adolescence – or rather the (manufactured) hype surrounding it – last week. I thought at the time I’d said all that needed to be said. It is just some Netflix show, after all.
But then the hype keeps going, and the messaging piles up, and you realize it’s actually a really neat case study in The Way Things Work.
As a quick catch-up for the fortunate few yet to have Adolescence forcibly crammed in front of their eyes, the show is about a boy who stabs a girl at school. It’s said to raise “important questions”…...

Teachers must do all they can to avert an AI-facilitated intellectual dark age
AI could replace teachers, one entrepreneur cheerfully predicts. Does he underestimate the risks of AI for the learning process? Yes. Here's why...
(from David Thunder's Freedom Blog)
AI could replace teachers, says an influential entrepreneur in a Youtube interview. He’s all for freedom but seemingly unbothered by machines teaching kids. Yet, some tasks—like forming young minds—can’t be handed to AI without losing something vital.
Teaching isn’t just data synthesis—AI can do that. It’s about apprenticeship, modeling thought, and hands-on practice. Just as an athlete needs a coach, in a similar way students need teachers to sharpen their minds through dialogue, practice and focused effort.
AI can now write papers from prompts, mimicking human work. But this skips the mental “heavy-lifting”—the real learning. The end product looks the same, but the student’s mind doesn’t grow. That’s the danger we confront.
Traditional teaching tools like take-home papers are obsolete with AI. We can't reasonably expect students to voluntarily renounce the competitive advantage it gives them, and policing it is near impossible.
Teachers must rethink learning for an AI age. Oral exams, longer tech-free tests, or ungraded challenges (to reduce the incentive to lean on AI) could replace traditional teaching & assessment methods. We must not let AI shortcuts subvert the learning process.
We worry about AI stealing jobs, but surely the bigger threat is a degraded learning process. If minds are not well formed, we may enter an intellectual dark age. Teachers and schools must act fast to avert such a catastrophic outcome.

Public Participation Guidelines – Notice 3415 of 2025
The South African Parents’ Action Coalition has prepared guidelines for public commentary on Regulation 14 in Notice 3415 of 2025, which requires immunisation of children for admission to public schools.
We note that standard form letters are being circulated for use as individual submissions. Using such a letter verbatim is strongly discouraged, as this compromises the integrity of the public participation process.
Instead, please refer to the attached document for assistance in preparing your own submission. These guidelines serve as a prompt to help you draft a comment that is authentically yours and will be recognised as such.
Adhering to these principles is crucial to ensure that our collective voices are heard and that each comment is treated with the seriousness it deserves.
