The health secretary has said he is "leaning towards" making the COVID-19 vaccine compulsory for NHS staff. Social care workers already have to get the COVID-19 vaccine to be able to work and Sajid Javid said the threat of not being able to work will ensure NHS staff get the jab.

This highlights the fact that government is willing to use the threat of loss of income to force the medical staff to take the jab, the real question is why in the middle of a so called “pandemic” have 100 000 NHS staff who should have a better understanding of medical issues than the public chosen not to take the jab?

Bristol councillor Fabian Breckels, an associate member of the Jewish Labour Movement, said the former England player's comments were "appalling".

Karen Pollock, chief executive of the Holocaust Educational Trust, also said it was "clearly an inappropriate comparison"

A man is being sought by police in connection with the rape of another man in a central Bristol park. The assault took place in Castle Park between 06:10 and 06:45 on Saturday, 16 October.

He is described as black or mixed race, about 5ft 9in and of slim build with broad shoulders. Detectives have released a CCTV image of the man they are seeking, walking along with an e-scooter.

He was wearing a black puffa-style jacket with a hood, dark tracksuit bottoms and black Nike trainers, and is said to have a deep accent similar to South African.

A man has been arrested in connection with the rape of another man in Exeter.

Police said it was reported a man in his 30s was raped behind Exeter Library, in Rougemont Gardens, on Saturday morning 23 October 2021 around 03:00.

On Monday, a 38-year-old man from Exeter was arrested on suspicion of rape and remains in police custody.

"The suspect managed to escape down St Martins Lane heading in the direction of Exeter Cathedral," said Det Insp LeFort.

Devon and Cornwall Police are appealing for witnesses in the area or for any members of the public who attempted to intervene.
