Only 5% of Devon homes well-insulated

Only 5% of areas in Devon have an energy rating of C or above, according to a government study.

The study, conducted by the Office of National Statistics, shows average energy ratings, EPC ratings and environmental impacts of all 7201 Middle Layer Super Output Areas in the country. The data was released in November 2021 for the 2021 financial year (up to March 2021).

A lot of these houses are new built houses, at least in East Devon alone there have 12,400 new houses that have been built in the last decade.

The problem with new houses is that they though are modern and equipped to meet guidelines, they are notoriously cheap to make, hard to modify and improve.

Older houses, a lot in Devon which can be found to date back to before Tudor England, are by comparison a lot easier to insulate, but a lot of these are outside the price range of ordinary people.

With the rise in new houses being used to help house the new arrivals of immigrants, lest we forget that 90% of England’s population growth in the last decade was migrant driver, the British people are again being priced out, and even if they get to buy these houses, they are proving a financial black hole.

With energy prices set to rise in April and continue throughout the years ahead, the poisoned chalice of modern home ownership grows ever harder to ignore for ordinary Brits.

Second homes with foreign owners more than double in Devon since 2010

Almost 4,000 properties in Devon are registered to people based overseas. The number has more than doubled since 2010, and the figures shed more light on the factors behind a growing housing crisis in the county.

Foreign buyers are blamed in part for driving price increases, as wealthy individuals compete for second homes and investment properties. Recent house price data has shown big rises over the last 12 months in Devon.

For those who have lived in Devon and know that every other good home they see in a popular area, especially in the north and south, is not available for purchase, this will hardly come as news. Remember that the government can mull over seizing Russian oligarch’s yachts and assets in this country when it suits their globalist war aims, but to ban or even suggest a limit on the ownership of a home by overseas foreigners, then that’s off the cards!

Property owners and those in the housing market are all too eager to let this continue, unaware or uncaring of those it affects, how many lives must be altered, how many young families who cannot create their own home, how many people forced out of homes when they should be together. As a result, the average house price in the southwest is now £310k!

This isn’t a problem unique to the southwest, but we certainly do seem to suffer badly from it. Only by stopping immigration, stopping the corruption in the housing market and reforming our welfare system can we hope to correct this.
