عن عروة بن عامر
Urwah Ibn Aamir reported that:
ذُكِرَتِ الطِّيَرَةُ عِنْدَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ
At-Tiyarah (omens) were mentioned around the Prophet ﷺُ
فَقَالَ :
So he said:
" أَحْسَنُهَا الْفَأْلُ، وَلَا تَرُدُّ مُسْلِمًا،
The best of it is fa’l (being optimistic from hearing or seeing something without it being a reason for one to engage in an action or refrain from it) and it doesn’t repel a Muslim
فَإِذَا رَأَى أَحَدُكُمْ مَا يَكْرَهُ فَلْيَقُلِ :
So if one of you see something that he hates, then he should say:
اللَّهُمَّ لَا يَأْتِي بِالْحَسَنَاتِ إِلَّا أَنْتَ،
Oh Allaah!, no one brings about good except You,
وَلَا يَدْفَعُ السَّيِّئَاتِ إِلَّا أَنْتَ،
and no one wards off evil except You,
وَلَا حَوْلَ وَلَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِكَ
and there is no power nor strength except with You.
Reported by Aboo Daawood
In the next narration
عن ابن عمرو رضي الله عنهما:
It is reported from Ibn Amr may Allaah be pleased with them that he said: (attributing it to the Prophet (ﷺُ) who said):
من ردته الطيرة عن حاجته فقد أشرك.
‘Whoever is repelled from his needs by omens then he has fallen into Shirk.’
قالوا: فما كفارة ذلك؟
They said: ‘what’s the compensation for that?’
قال: أن تقولوا:
He replied: ‘that you say:
اللهم لا خير إلا خيرك،
‘O Allaah there is no good except Yours,
ولا طير إلا طيرك،
And there are no birds except Your birds, (i.e. no harm can befall us except by Your will),
ولا إله غيرك.
And there is no deity worthy of worship except You.’
