Remembering the Google Pixel 1, five years on
Not an update, but just to mark that Google Pixel 1 is officially 5 years old.
Before Google Pixel is launched, Nexus used to be Google phone lineup, partnering with other OEMs and releasing it. The last Nexus phone is the Huawei Nexus 6P.
In Oct 2016, first smartphone "made by Google" era started. What's different from the Nexus lineup is that the reviewers at that time found that it has crystal clear camera, superior performance and a cool new Assistant.
Talking about camera, it still holding so well in 2021 that it still beat recent mid range devices. Every shot on the Pixel have HDR+ enabled, taking photos with it, the details are so clear, even 48MP lens from other devices didn't take as clear as that from what I tested. Google had introduce HDR+ in Nexus 5 as an optional setting. On the Pixel, they took a major step to improve it and make it enabled by default.
In 2016, Google Pixel is the king of computational photography. The technology that are put into it are just mind blowing, make other OEMs camera performance looks not great anymore at that time.
Google Pixel initially launch with some cool Google's perks, it is the first phone to have Android Nougat and the Google Assistant. Also, not to mention that it has unlimited Google Photos backup, in original quality, meanwhile later Pixel till Pixel 5 has high quality (now storage saver).
Things doesn't just stop here, as Google introduced Pixel Feature Drop and we are part of the club unofficially. Some features like Gboard new clipboard suggestion chips, we got it after the launch, though it now rolling out widely to other devices.
Written some of my opinion here, inspired by Android Central article, you can give them a read if you want. In case you don't know yet, we have a Pixel 1 community (here group chat).

🎉 Pixel 1 Community 1 Year Anniversary Special Post 🎉
Hey there, time flies and the channel is one year old now. Pixel 1 is announced on October 4 and released publicly on October 20. Happy 5th birthday to Google Pixel series too.
By this time, the development isn't as active as when the channel initially setup. Without this channel, we probably actually won't see developers building some other ROMs too I guess. These are some of the past ROMs we have via this community: #ArrowOS, #Bootleggers, #Fluid, #PegasusOS.
Anyway, currently there only 4 ROMs that are actively maintain for our device: #LineageOS, LineageOS #microG, #PixelExperience & #PixelDust. Be thankful and grateful because some other devices don't even have any ROM development anymore or none at all.
If you don't know yet, we have expand to open more Google Pixel communities. Our next community is @Pixel2Updates, and this is currently our largest community. We also have opened @Pixel5aChannel, but currently device is still new and ROMs development is slowly building up, community is still small, hope it can get big one day. Also good news for the device is that it have LineageOS official support.
Last one is where I put most of my focus on, a general Google updates channel with news of all latest developments & stuff by Google, @PixelHubUpdates. This channel promise to bring English only content of news to you guys, also some brief info of what is about the news right without visiting the website, highlights post that are worth focusing on in one post, and a hashtag system to easier browse back past news.
Usually where I got the news from, I link it below the post in case you want to know more and find out the news source. Recommend you guys to join it and also share it to people you know who are interested in stuff like this if you find it useful. You can also treat the group chat as a general Pixel group, hopefully people can share it out so it can be an active chat room.
This community will still continue to be maintained and hope to see Android 12 ROMs for the device too. Wondering what's new about Android 12? Check it out here. Also here a recent news about dynamic theming on Android 12. Until then, this is a 1 year anniversary special update post for the Pixel 1 community. Thanks for the support!

Google must've changed something in the API, apps that use the older implementation (McDonalds & SafetyNet checkers etc.) will claim that you failed SafetyNet test when you haven't. Magisk Manager has a working check that will properly say the state of your SafetyNet

Try out Android 12 with these custom GSIs on your device
XDA Developers
For those who want to use Android 12 but your devices don't have any Android 12 ROM yet, custom GSIs can make your dream come true.
Well yes, you can try out Google's own version of GSI, but it is just a barebone AOSP build so nothing fun with that, and custom GSIs bring all the fun stuff which make it good to use at least. Here some of the Android 12 GSIs you can flash.
@phhusson developed his own custom GSI project, known as Phh-Treble. His GSI builds come with a ton of bug fixes and some useful features. it is vanilla build which don't include Google services. He also even show it can be install on OG Pixel.
Pixel Experience 12 GSI kicked in to add the sprinkle on top of it, developed by @ponces. In his GSI you will find Pixel goodies, the wallpapers, exclusive features, Pixel Launcher and more.
You can flash it on devices that have A/B partitioning which all Google Pixel devices are eligible. You can follow XDA's GSI installation guide to get started on how to install it.
