Remembering the Google Pixel 2, probably the best Pixel ever made
Original article | Previous post

After remembering the first Pixel which started the series of Google made phones, time for the 2nd generation. By this time. the device is already 4 years old.

In early 2017, there is three Pixel 2 devices. The two devices that get to launch is HTC's Pixel 2 (walleye) and LG's Pixel 2 XL (taimen). Another device which didn't get to launch is HTC's Pixel 2 XL (muskie), it is canceled in favor of LG-made model. It is reported that due to price concern around the HTC-made device compared to LG version, and LG managed to produce a more attractive-looking at a more competitive price.

HTC Pixel 2 XL didn't make it appearance until a few months ago. It is an upscaled version of the Pixel 2, with sizeable vertical bezels. Before Pixel 2 actual launch, Google forked over $1.1 billion to bring aboard 2,000 HTC employees, many of whom had already worked on Pixel phones. We can see that Google really want to expand their hardware division.

Pixel 2 XL at that time looks modern while the smaller version doesn't since it has big chunk of bezels. The Pixel 2 XL unfortunately has display issues with the form of poor colors and viewing angles, also several other issues. Anyway Google try push software updates to address the issue of colors and reduce image persistence, but still "the thing you looked at every time you used the phone — was just not good."

Pixel 2 also launch with some Pixel exclusive features, one of it being "Now Playing" which it can detect what songs is being played in the background without Internet connection, it still a Pixel exclusive so far till now. Also Google Lens is launched with the device, and later got rollout to every other Android devices. Pixel camera also got improvement too, with a new optically stabilized shooter. Lastly, it came with water resistant too.

So Pixel Visual Core (an early ancestor of the Pixel 6's Google Tensor chip's AI hardware) first appeared on the Pixel 2, thought it was disabled at launch. In a later update, Google enabled it to speed up the photo processing. Not to forget mention that Pixel 2 also got a really great camera. Also it manage to grab a few Pixel Feature Drop update before being deprecated, though you still can receive some of it via app updates.

On the Internet, I could see many people praising the Pixel 2 as the best Pixel ever made till now in 2021, especially the Pixel 2 XL model, though it has some display issues. Excited about the Pixel 6 whether it can beat Pixel 2 as the best Pixel or not.

Anyway, most content here are inspired from Android Central article (again, lol), first link above is it (or just use Instant View feature if you are on mobile). Also, we have a Pixel 2 community too (here group chat) which most of them even treat there as the place to comment all these posts from this channel (that why our group here is just simply dead, man).

Announcement about our discussion group
Time to expand the community, shall we?
Group Link: t.me/PixelHubChat

I know a few people try to join in the group that is linked to the channel for the past few weeks and hope to have some conversations, but apparently find it to be a dead group, and lastly they just leave the group, leaving the group with only a pitiful amount of less than 10 people by this time.

Actually we announced the opening of discussing group earlier, but probably because most of the focus has gone into Android 12, so not much people have noticed. Also, most of our community chat continue to occur in the Pixel 1 & Pixel 2 group, where most people actually still comment their opinion of the post from this channel over there.

So yeah, I am posting it at this time, hope to get more people to be aware that we have a discussion group. I hope to make use of the group in some ways though. You might know that our post always took quite a while before it can go publish. It not like we find it and immediately get it post, that's just lazy writing.

Well, if you want faster information or early access to some stuff (like Google Calculator Dynamic Colors Copy but probably rarely happening), highly recommend join in the group as that where you going to get these stuffs without waiting for channel post.

Also if you have any early access to some new apps feature or found some new stuff from the web, welcome to share it in our group, highly appreciated. We are also trying to build a public English Google Pixel general chat room, which doesn't really exist for now.

TL;DR
I hope this post can take your attention and give it a chance to join the group, and make it an active chat room. Also if you find what we are posting are useful, share it out to more people so they get to discover it.

It's not my community, it's our community, you guys help build it up. Thanks for the support!

Google must've changed something in the API, apps that use the older implementation (McDonalds & SafetyNet checkers etc.) will claim that you failed SafetyNet test when you haven't. Magisk Manager has a working check that will properly say the state of your SafetyNet

Pixel 6 Australia ads accidentally aired, local price starting from AUD$999
Earlier there two promotional ads of the Pixel 6 leaked, and here we have another one from Australia. which accidentally aired earlier two days before launch.

A Reddit user manage to capture their local television ads with audio included. After the Google Tensor, next we get to see is about the battery life which advertised "Hours of power" and "Minutes of charging". also pushing "All day Adaptive Battery" estimate. We also get to see the new Pixel Stand and under-fingerprint scanner in action.

Next highlight is the "Magic Eraser", which can make "Photobombers disappear. Lastly, it about the security, which Google claimed to have the "Most layer of hardware security". The ad close up with "The first-ever all-Google phone" and says the Pixel 6 will be starting from AUD$999. Nothing much different from the previous two ads. no camera performance being shown too. Google Pixel 6 & Pixel 6 Pro US price leaked
Apparently someone found the retail price tag for both the Pixel 6 & Pixel 6 Pro in a Target store.

The price tags put in the store show that the Pixel 6 will be pricing at $599, and the Pixel 6 Pro starts from $898. Interestingly, the advertisement from Australia that is just leaked a few hours ago showed it is priced at AUD$999 which is equivalent to USD$740. In European region, it is given the price of €649 and that around USD$750.

Also notes that it is even cheaper than the Pixel 5 by $100 and offer way better specs. Can't believe the price of the Pixel 6 will be this low, anyway time will tell whether it true or not. (Evan Lei)

YouTube testing new way to show video denoscription on the web
So YouTube desktop web is testing a new way to show denoscription. There will be a "Denoscription" button located at the toolbar beneath the noscript.

When pressing it, you will see a denoscription box showing at the right side of the video. With this addition, you can watch the video and also view the denoscription at the same time.

Also there some minor changes which have rolled out for quite a while. The search bar is now bigger in size, player UI is also slightly bigger. There also another one which is still not widely rollout, a redesign icon of verified check mark for channels (which you can see in the image attached), so far I could only see it in the upcoming video list and not in other places.

Pre-order Pixel 6 at Target and you get free Pixel Buds A-Series
For an unbelievable price for the Pixel 6 at just $599 in the Target store, the offer just doesn't stop here and you might get a free Pixel Bud A-Series for pre-ordering it.

Someone shared to Android Police an image of the internal Target system, it reveals that whoever is purchasing the Pixel 6 or Pixel 6 Pro with the Pixel Bud A-Series as a bundle, get to save $99 which means gifting them the earbuds for free.

The deal should go live after the Pixel Fall Launch event end, which the time shows it goes live on Oct 19, 11 am PT. (Android Police)

Chrome OS Phone Hub will be able to launch apps directly from notifications
Ecosystem nowadays are still incomplete and Google is apparently improving it for Chrome OS.

Your Chromebook might be able to launch app from your phone, via clicking a notification. Mishaal Rahman on Twitter posted that Chrome OS is gaining support for app sync across platforms. A new setting in Phone Hub shows that you can enable an option to temporarily use apps straight on your Chromebook.

This might be a Pixel exclusive as reported by Android Police. Currently the feature isn't working. By the way, Pixel Fall Launch event might show it in action, can't be sure though. (Android Police)

App developers can now fill out 'Data Safety' info in Play Store, section launching in February 2022
In order to let users know how do applications collect data and use the personal information, Google is requiring app developers to fill out the necessary information in "Data Safety" section, and it will go live in February 2022.

Starting today, the "Data Safety" form will appear in Google Play Console, and will be available to “everyone within a couple of weeks." Play Store users will get to see the "Data Safety" section under "About this app" starting from February 2022.

Lastly, Google is targeting April 2022 for when “all your apps must have their Data safety section approved.” After February, “No information available” will be shown for apps that have not submitted or been rejected. (9To5Google)

Google Play Protect Services available in Play Store listing
Play Store | APKMirror

Google Play Protect has been part of the Play Store for several years already, protecting your Android device for dangerous malware apps, even when you install apps outside from the Play Store. Apparently, Google is launching as a separate app for Android 12 devices.

Currently, 100k downloads has been reported and well, I see no reasons for this separate app to be a Pixel exclusive, so it might reach other devices that launch with Android 12 & GMS services included.

Didn't understand why there a need of such a separate app, but anyway, it is what it is.

Google Chat gaining Mark as unread feature
One of the most useful feature that Google Chats is lacking is a "Mark as unread" feature, and Google is starting to rolling out this feature.

You will be able to do this in Spaces and direct messages. On mobile, tap and hold on a message that would like to mark as unread from, or go into the conversation options and perform the action. On desktop web, hover over a message or tap on the ⋮ icon in the conversation list and you will find the options there.

With this feature, you could also mark as read without entering the chat. The feature is starting to rollout for the next 15 days to Google Workspace accounts. (Google Workspace Updates)
