Google Photos, Play Books and YouTube Music are gaining new widgets soon
More Material You widgets are arriving soon for Google Photos, Play Books and YouTube Music.

Google announced in the blog post that you can easily access full library of books and keep track on audiobook progress via the new Google Play Books widget.

Besides, you can control music playback and see recently played tracks right from your homescreen with the new YouTube Music widget, which apparently has been discovered a few months ago.

Lastly, Google Photos will start to roll out a new People & Pets widget starting next week. The widget will then let you select a few faces and later show frame options, and the widget setup is done. Tapping on the widget will then show you photos that consist of that face that you choose earlier.

All these widgets are expected to be in Material You design, including Google Play Books hopefully.

Google is expanding auto-reset permission feature to Android 6.0+ devices in 2022
XDA Developers

You are probably familiar with this announcement, because Google announced it a few months ago. Previously they said they will start rolling out the feature starting December 2021, however they postponed it by a month time to January 2022.

Apps targeting Android 11 (API 30) and higher will have the auto-reset permission feature enabled by default. Google Play guideline also has made sure every app must be targeting at least Android 11 after November 2021, so in theory app that you installed from Play Store will have it enabled by default.

Apps that are not used for a few months will have permissions revoked. If you wish to ask your user to disable the auto-reset permission, you will need to use this API which is part of the Jetpack Core library: androidx.core.content.PackageManagerCompat.getUnusedAppRestrictionsStatus() and androidx.core.content.IntentCompat.createManageUnusedAppRestrictionsIntent().

Chrome OS 96 brings more camera features & improvements [1/2]
Google Blog

Chrome OS has been updated to version 96, and one of the main upgrade is the Camera app.

You can scan documents and convert it into a PDF file or a JPEG image with the Camera app. Just launch it and hold the document, then it will detect the edge automatically, and you can just share out your document straight away.

Besides, you can use Pan-Tilt-Zoom feature to have more control of what you want the camera to capture. Open the Camera app and make some adjustment, your preference will still be applied in Meet call and other places.

Also soon you will be able to use the Camera app to create GIFs. You just need to record a 5-second video and done, you can then share out the GIF, it is teased to launch for everyone early next year.

Google Assistant is also integrating with the Camera app, so you can command “take a photo” and it will do the job for you. You can sign-up for the beta program to get access to the new feature.

Chrome OS 96 gains proper Nearby Share support, improved App settings and more [2/2]
9To5Google

Besides getting Camera upgrade, Chrome OS 96 also introduces some new stuff too.

Nearby Share now support all Android apps. Earlier it limited to the Files app, system apps and Progressive Web Apps. Now it much easier to share stuff across your Android phone and Chromebook.

Earlier, if you want to enable/ disable notifications per app, you need to go to the Quick Settings to toggle it. In Chrome OS 96, there’s a new Notifications page in Settings > Apps and you can control whether to show notifications in one place.

Go to "Manage your apps," tap on any app that you want to manage and you will see there a section called “Opening supported links,” which let you decide whether to open it in the Chrome browser or in the app itself.

By the way, the Wallpapers app can be opened directly from the app drawer (previously only accessible via right-clicking) and have received a redesign with a larger grid UI.
