Chrome OS 96 gains proper Nearby Share support, improved App settings and more [2/2]
9To5Google

Besides getting Camera upgrade, Chrome OS 96 also introduces some new stuff too.

Nearby Share now support all Android apps. Earlier it limited to the Files app, system apps and Progressive Web Apps. Now it much easier to share stuff across your Android phone and Chromebook.

Earlier, if you want to enable/ disable notifications per app, you need to go to the Quick Settings to toggle it. In Chrome OS 96, there’s a new Notifications page in Settings > Apps and you can control whether to show notifications in one place.

Go to "Manage your apps," tap on any app that you want to manage and you will see there a section called “Opening supported links,” which let you decide whether to open it in the Chrome browser or in the app itself.

By the way, the Wallpapers app can be opened directly from the app drawer (previously only accessible via right-clicking) and have received a redesign with a larger grid UI.

If you are on Android 12, you might realised you can't control the volume of cast devices using your phone’s volume keys. Google earlier just mentioned it is due to a legal issue, but recently a Googler confirmed it is due to Sonos lawsuit.

As many users complaint the issue on the Google IssueTracker, a Googler stand out and commented that is due to a lawsuit from Sonos. The engineer told that the team has a workaround for Android 12L, advising everyone to "sit tight" and stop complaining it at Google.

Google Pixel 6 seems to have random signal loss issue
Android Police

The Pixel 6 didn't have a great start. unregistered fingerprints have chances of unlocking your phone, ghost dialing but that fixed, screen flickering and minor display issues. Welp, issues just keep popping up for Pixel 6 owners, and the latest issue is randomly losing mobile network service.

Many people on Reddit reported similar issue, which the phone kept losing carrier network service randomly. Back in November there already a Google support thread and around 100+ affected users has replied to the thread.

Some users that own older Pixel devices also reported after they have updated their Pixel phone to Android 12 and they faced similar issue, but majority reports are still coming from Pixel 6 owners though.

Some users pointed out that turning off Google’s Adaptive Connectivity feature could potentially fixed the issue, and those users who performed said it seems to be working, with some saying it not working for them.

Currently it unclear what's stuff is causing the issue, hopefully Google could solve the issue with a software update as soon as possible.

Google Search mobile site gains dark theme and various type of "Back to top" button
Google Search mobile site is gaining some new changes, and here some of the features that Google is currently testing out.

Earlier Google has pushed dark mode to everyone on the desktop site, now it starting to gradually roll out on the mobile site. When searching for any term, you might have a chance to see the banner which say dark mode is available and you can enable it by tapping on the "turn on" button.

Besides, Google is also testing out various "Back to top" button. So far, I only manage to see 5 types of the button, some are placed on the top or bottom middle position, some are placed on top right or bottom right corner.

These changes are currently under server side testing, you might get a chance to see it though if you are searching with Google on the mobile site.

Google is preparing to launch Pixel Watch in 2022
Business Insider | Mishaal Rahman

After years of rumor, Pixel Watch seems to be ready for launch as early as next year.

The device is codenamed "Rohan," and this is reported back by Jon Proser a few months ago. The watch has a hear-rate monitor and basic health-tracking features like step counting. Similar to Apple Watch, it will require daily charging, and one employee said the charging speed is slow.

The watch seems to being worked on by Google’s Pixel hardware group separately from Fitbit, which Google acquired back in January. About the branding, it unclear whether the watch will be really called "Pixel Watch" or not, and Google has no plan of branding it as a Fitbit device.

The watch might launch sometimes during spring next year if nothing goes wrong.
