Mishaal Rahman | Android Police
Google's At A Glance is getting some update recently, with doorbell alerts enabled and weather alerts restored which is earlier disabled due to a weather warning that should only be sent to people living in Philippines.
When there's someone ringing your doorbell, you will receive a text notification with a live preview of the camera in the lockscreen page. Besides that, Mishaal Rahman also has founded that there is also a new settings page prepared, but those other features aren't working for now.
The feature is already enabled via server side with Google app version 13.0.6 beta. Meanwhile the weather alerts should have re-enabled back for all users regardless of app version.

Google Pixel Fold benchmark score reveals it will come with Google Tensor and 12GB RAM
MySmartPrice
It is reported earlier that Google cancelled making it. Just recently, a benchmark score surfaced on the web and it appeared to be the unannounced Pixel foldable.
A few months ago, 9To5Google did a teardown to the Camera app and found out that the foldable by Google is given the codename "Pipit." The benchmark score image shows the same codename, which seems to be the foldable that is long-rumored.
The benchmark listing shows it is featuring an octa-core processor, with a base frequency of 1.8GHz. If we take a look at Pixel 6 Tensor SoC, we can see that it has four efficiency cores clocked at 1.8GHz and an octa-core design, hinting the foldable could have the same Tensor processor too. It also shows us that the device will come with 12GB RAM.
So far, this is some of the info we got. Google is indeed working on a foldable phone. It could come with Android 12L preinstalled when it launched.

Gmail just got 10 billion downloads record in Play Store
After nearly one month and a few days later, finally another app cross Play Store's 10 billion downloads milestone, and as I expected earlier, it's Gmail.
It easily the next app to cross this milestone since majority of OEMs preinstalled it in their phones. It is the seventh app to ever reach this big milestone if you are wondering, the previous app that cross the milestone is Chrome.
Which app is going to be the next? Well, I bet it will be Drive, once again wish me luck, we will check back at a later date.

A message from Google to Apple, stop the message bullying
Android Authority
Talking about iMessage and Android, you might know that when someone sent out a message from Android to iOS users, they will receive a green bubble instead of the default blue, which means they are receiving it via SMS. Just recently, Google once again stand out to response and wanted to unify the messaging experience between the two platform.
Android official Twitter account posted out a tweet saying that "iMessage should not benefit from bullying. Google's Senior Vice President Hiroshi Lockheimer also tweeted out with a reaction to a Wall Street Journal article on the iPhone’s dominance among teens.
A few months ago, he also has already starting to push out the message. This time they manage to capture more attention. iMessage is one of the most used messaging service in US. For other countries, this type of "bully" rarely exist, but still, it will be nice to see Google and Apple can unified the messaging experience.

With Android 10, Google introduced a faster way to push update to all Android phones from various OEMs, and that's Google Play system update. For awhile, we don't know what stuff are fixed and improved with all these updates, but Google has recently created a new support page detailing all the information.
December 2021 update is the first update to receive the changelog, with the update bringing improvements to "battery life, device connectivity, network usage, privacy, stability, security, and updatability." Following up is the recent January 2022 update. with Google mentioning that there are improvements for daylight saving time and time zone management.
Google could be posting those information over in the support page on a monthly basis, just like the Android Security Bulletins.

Google said they just want Apple to support RCS in iMessage, not bringing iMessage over to Android
Android Authority | Previous post
Google's Senior Vice President Hiroshi Lockheimer earlier has already called out Apple to stop "bullying" with the green/blue bubble stuff. A few days later, he stand out again and wanted to clarify something.
From his tweet, he is clearly mentioning that Google isn't requesting Apple to bring iMessages over to Android, but they hope Apple could add support for RCS in iMessages.
For now, when Android users sent a text message over to iOS users, they are receiving it via SMS which means the bubble will turn green, which causes teens in the US having pressures to switch over to iPhones, as reported by Wall Street Journal recently.

Android 13 introduced easier and simple way to scan QR codes
Android Police
QR codes are now part of our daily live, this is especially true with the pandemic ongoing. Anyway, soon you can easily scan it without the help of Google services on Android 13.
Soon you will be able use QR scanner from the lock screen. It could probably show a shortcut to the scanner somewhere on the lock screen, but no one is sure for now.
Also in the QS panel, Google has also added a tile dedicated for scanning QR code, which then the system will open a separate view/mode for the action after tapping on it.

Android 13 could bring in redesign audio output picker
Android Police
Nothing too fancy here, but Google is working on a redesigned audio outlet picker for Android 13.
As you can see from the image, the old volume sliders are no longer there and have been replaced by new rounded, fatter ones. The connected audio output device will have a checkmark on the right side, while disconnected device will be grayed out, now it much easier to differentiate.
The design of the audio output picker isn't really polish yet as Android 13 is still in early development, and it might subject to change.

You can probably transfer media to nearby devices with a 'tap' on Android 13
Android Police
You can soon transfer and play media with nearby devices wirelessly, with just a single "tap." For now, Android Police said they can only show mockup of how the new feature works, the feature is labeled as "Media TTT" workflow, while “TTT” means “tap to transfer.”
Here's an example of how it works. A user is playing media on the phone, and then another user with another phone get close enough to the other user's device, then there will be a notification chip showing on top. Depend on how far away those two devices are, it will either show you tips that tell you to move closer or show you it is already playing on the other devices.
The feature is currently under development and Google still probably haven't figured out the way to make it work, so it could make it way to the stable release or probably not.

Android 13 might give access switching user profiles from keyguard and disable activating Assistant with home button
Android Police
Android 13 is already leaked out and we know that it will be gaining a quicker way to scan QR code, redesign audio picker, and tap-to-transfer media feature. Besides that, soon you might be able to switch user profiles from the keyguard and also disable triggering Assistant while long-pressing home button.
It's nice to see that you can switch between user profiles from the keyguard, which is something similar to what desktop offer for awhile. For now, no one is sure whether it is arriving for both phones and tablets as the user switching tool vary between both platforms.
Meanwhile, Google has also added option to let users disable long-press home button gestures that activate the Assistant. It's just a very simple toggle that can be found under system navigation settings.

"We have discovered that users on Android 12 devices sometimes don’t hear audio when answering a Duo call from an incoming call notification. We are working on a fix, but in the meantime, a workaround is to try the call once more but have your Duo app open so you can answer the call from within the app instead of via the notification alert. Thank you for providing feedback and we’ll keep you posted!"The issue isn't really realised by a lot of users, it probably because there's not a lot of users on Android 12 and some people who use Android 12 aren't even using the service at all. Anyway, bug fixes will be provided soon.
