Android 13 Privacy Dashboard can show applications accessing which specific media on your phone
In Depth Tech Reviews (YouTube video)

Android 12 bring in Privacy Dashboard, showing you which permission are being used by the apps that you have installed.

In Android 13, there will be two new permissions shown in the list, there are respectively Music & other audio and Photos & videos. Besides, Files and media have been renamed to Files & documents to reduce confusion of the newly added permission.

So for example, when you use a local music player to play some music, Privacy Dashboard will now be able to show you that specific application is accessing your music stored in the phone.

Pixel Launcher can show search bar at the bottom
Esper Blog

Pixel Launcher that came preinstalled Android 13 Developer Preview 2 has some new features being worked out.

The search bar can be displayed at the bottom of the screen instead of being at the top. This makes it much easier to access the search bar with one hand, especially on devices with a large screen.

In order to get access to the feature, you will need to enable ENABLE_FLOATING_SEARCH_BAR feature flag in Pixel Launcher, for now it's unclear whether this feature will be made available on AOSP Launcher3 or not.

Android 13 can turn on dark mode at bedtime
Esper Blog

On Android 13, there could be likely another schedule method to turn on Dark theme besides following sunrise/sunset and the time you scheduled.

You can let the device turn on dark mode when bedtime mode is enabled. Digital Wellbeing is where you can adjust your bedtime mode settings on most devices.

This feature is not available by default on Developer Preview 2 and require enabling settings_app_allow_dark_theme_activation_at_bedtime feature flag.

Android 13 prepared clipboard overlay and showing account chips on status bar
9to5Google

When taking a screenshot, you will see a preview of the screenshot on the bottom left corner with several controls. Clipboard on Android 13 is set to get something similar to this.

After enabling the feature, when you copy any text to the clipboard, the text preview will be available at the same corner with an edit button next to it. Tapping on it will open a simple text editor, letting you make changes to the text you have just copied. After that, you can just tap on "Copy" button or the share it to somewhere else.

Besides, there is also account chip which will show the profile avatar and name of the current user profile being used in the status bar. This is neat for those who shared devices with each other and use different profiles.

These features are currently still work-in-progress, so there is chances that Google could pulled the feature anytime in a future build.

Wear OS 3 screenshots revealed new Assistant, notifications display and more
9to5Google

Google has recently updated the Wear OS phone companion app screenshots in Play Store, which revealed some upcoming UI of how Wear OS 3 will look like.

First, we saw a new Assistant layout, which is leaked earlier last year. Next is a step counter screen, and the accent color used hinted it's powered by Fitbit, which could likely replace the Google Fit version. The last new screenshot is a notification from Messages app. You will be able to see the avatar with the app icon name, follow by the sender name, day & date, and a brief conversation preview.

Agenda (Next Event) tile got a minor redesign, with the time of the event shown on the top, followed by event name, address if written, and lastly an "Agenda" button. Rest of the screenshots provided are the looks of YouTube Music, Messages and Google Pay as of today. All these screenshots should represent the design of the upcoming Wear OS 3.

Chrome OS is preparing variable refresh rate support
9to5Google

Chrome OS is about to get Steam support, and Google is already preparing to add support for a variable refresh rate to the operating system at the same time.

According to Kevin Tofel over at About Chromebooks, Chrome OS 101 will be adding variable refresh rate support, currently it is hidden behind a flag:
Enable Variable Refresh Rate
Enable the variable refresh rate (Adaptive Sync) setting for capable displays

That likely means future Chromebooks could be getting a variable refresh rate panel. In the flag denoscription, Google also mentioned "capable displays," which hinted that external displays are supported to take advantage of the variable refresh rate in Chrome OS too.

Android 13 can turn your photos into 'cinematic wallpapers'
Esper Blog

Your device wallpaper could get a 'cinematic' effect soon on Android 13,

In the WallpaperPicker app, Mishaal Rahman found out some strings which mentioned a new “Effects” tab, which will allow users to apply cinematic effects to their wallpaper. Though for now, it isn't working, but it should be something similar to Google Photos' 3D Cinematic Memories.

Besides that, there is also a wallpaper dimming feature, which lets you dim down the wallpaper brightness and make it much easier to view the app name. The feature is disabled by default for now, but Mishaal was able to show how it works.

Android 13 preparing a custom interface for PC devices
Esper Blog

Google claims they improved the experience of Android on large screen devices with Android 12L, and now with Android 13 it could possibly be optimised for PCs too.

We usually use PCs by controlling the mouse instead of touching the screen, Google seems to have realised about it and have added dedicated buttons for notifications and quick settings in the launcher's taskbar. It will always be shown on any screen wherever you go.

Mishaal Rahman also mentioned he saw applications being launched in multi-window mode instead of full-screen. We could see Google further improved the experience and make it feel like a desktop operating system on PC, but don't get your hopes high just yet.
