Android 14 messes around with Upside Down Cake
9to5Google | AOSP Gerrit
Android 13 is still in the Developer Preview stage and Google has already planned their next major Android version internal codename.
Although Google did mention dessert names won't be publicised anymore with Android 10, in fact they are still using them internally and it's still fun to know it. A recent commit appeared on AOSP gerrit hints us the upcoming Android 14 internal codename, it's given the name Upside Down Cake.
Yeah, what a weird name but this cake does really exist. After baking it, it will be flipped over and served to customers as an "upside down cake," so all the toppings and decorations are at the bottom in reality.

Google files trademark for Pixel Watch as it approaching to launch
9to5Google
Many Pixel Watch related stuff popped out this week and here's another one, which likely confirmed the name for the first Google's smart watch.
Recently, Google has submitted a filing to the United States Patent and Trademark Office, to trademark the “Pixel Watch” name. Besides knowing the "Pixel Watch" name has been trademarked, that's all. The filling also shows the name will be covering smartwatches categories. which we know and expected.
Just hope Google doesn't break the user experience of the watch just like their Pixel 6 when they first released it.

First look at Pixel Watch in real-life
Android Central
We have been seeing the rumored Pixel Watch by Google only from renders, and now the first real-life image of the watch surfaced on the web. Apparently, it is founded in a restaurant whose someone forgot to take it when they leave, likely to be a testing model for the internal Pixel team.
Like the rumor suggested, there will be a rotating crown on the side and there's also one button next to it. The watch band might be hard to swap though, as it could attach directly to the watch case. The charging method for the watch is unsure, but it could share a similar method like the Apple Watch does.
The watch back “looks metallic but feels like it’s coated with glass.” When booting up the watch, it failed to pass through the boot logo. Lastly, this model spotted in the wild is meant for “internal testing and development only,” with the “markings and packaging are not final.”

Gmail for Android experimenting with retractable navigation bar
Most applications nowadays have a permanent navigation bar, no matter how you scroll it stays at the same position. Recently, Google is testing a retractable navigation bar on its Gmail Android app.
The navigation bar no longer has any label below. When you scroll up, the navigation bar will retract, at the same time the FAB collapses. Scrolling down will then show back the navigation bar and expand the FAB, while reaching to the most bottom part of the app, the navigation bar shows up and the FAB stays collapsed.
In fact, this is what Google has planned a few months ago when they announced they are going to bring Material You elements into their Workspace applications. This change is currently an A/B test and should be available on recent versions of Gmail for Android app.

LineageOS 19.1 Official Release
LineageOS
Hey people, guess what has arrived, the good ol' ROM LineageOS is ready to distribute official builds of Android 12L with the release of version 19.1.
Good news for most Pixel owners, Pixel 2 series and all the way till Pixel 5a are receiving the update. Pixel 1/XL will continue to receive LineageOS 18.1 official update though, better than nothing at least. Meanwhile for Pixel 6, there isn't a maintainer for the device yet, but you are welcome to be the one if you can, lol.
Besides Pixel devices, more than 40 devices from various manufacturers are getting the update too. Builds will be available for all supported devices over the week, so sit back and relax for the meantime while waiting for the update to arrive for your device. Nevertheless, better late than never.
*For more LineageOS related update, check out @Pixel1Updates, we've been doing it for quite some time.

Pixel Launcher lets users search in more apps instantly
9to5Google
For now, at the very bottom of your search results, you will see an option called "Search on Google," which is also known as search shortcuts, and that feature is about to expand with more options.
A teardown of Android System Intelligence app reveals that Google is preparing to add more search shortcuts for Pixel Launcher universal search feature. It's spotted that Maps, Play Store, Settings and YouTube will pick up the feature too.
Currently, the feature isn't rolled out to anyone just yet, and there isn't any information on when it will appear for users.

Google's Noto Emoji keeps emoji fun and simple
Google Developers Blog | Google Fonts
Nowadays emoji are full of colors and available in many variants like genders, skin tones and more. If you like something simple, Google has something that suits your needs.
Noto Emoji is the latest creation by Google, which supported the latest Unicode 14.0 emoji specification, also letting you adjust its size and weight. Most emoji are basically the same as the original one, but to keep the design simple and easy to identify, Google has redrawn some of the available emoji, like country flags for example.
Besides, Google's blob characters made a return. With this particular character, there isn't the need to distinguish between genders. It is still adorable as in the past, just without the yellow.
If you are interested in checking out, head over to the Google Fonts website to learn more. The font is open-source and it's totally free to use anywhere.

Pixel Watch specs revealed, gets Bluetooth certification and more
r/GooglePixel
Bluetooth certification for an upcoming device, likely means that the device is ready for public launch soon. There are three models of Pixel Watch which have got their Bluetooth certification, those model numbers are GWT9R, GBZ4S, and GQF4C.
Besides, there are more specifications of the watch being leaked too. The health sensor used is identical to the one on Fitbit Charge 5. The device itself appeared to be 30mm wide and 14mm in thickness, with a weight of 36g. It might come with a 300mAh battery, also offering cellular connectivity.
If you felt bored and curious to look at someone wearing the watch, here you go. With tons of rumors reporting about the Pixel Watch, it's likely to launch on Google I/O as we mentioned several times earlier. With all these specifications, this watch won't be cheap in my opinion.
