Google Play Store is facing service outage issue

UPDATE:
Play Store server has been restored around 7:00 UTC. Users can now use the service normally.

If you couldn't connect to the Play Store, it's not your fault, it is indeed down currently.

The issue has been happening around since 5:00 UTC (April 25). If you try to open the app or visit their site, you are treated with some error message, saying it couldn't connect to the server.

At the time of posting, there are still some issues going around with the server but you might be able to connect to it after several times of refreshing. You can install and update applications, but it will take longer than usual to do so.

Google Authenticator v6.0 receives account sync support for 2FA, alongside with a new icon
Google Security Blog | Play Store | APKMirror

For a long time, Google Authenticator has been a standalone app, not until recently, things changed. Google has finally integrated the app to sync all your one-time codes onto your Google Account, that means you can access it from any of your signed-in devices.

Before that, it was stored only on that one specific device where you have the app set up, so if you happened to lose the device, you will be having a hard time signing in to the service which involved using the particular code. If you still want the extra security protection, you can still keep using the app without having the codes sync with your account, the choice is in your hand.

With this update, Google has updated the logo to match the looks with their products. The app also received minor tweaks in design, but no sign of Material You for the Android app yet.

Real life pictures of Pixel 7a in Arctic Blue
SnoopyTech

Here's the first look at a Pixel 7a in Arctic Blue in its box, it's color is similar to the Kinda Blue Pixel 2 with the visor switching colors from Silver to Blue depending on the lighting.

The device features a Google asset tag, which leads us to believe it's a prototype of some sort, maybe DVT? (check out @GoogleInternal if you're interested in seeing more prototypes)

Google and Apple work together to combat unwanted tracking from item trackers
9To5Mac | Google Security Blog

Apple has partnered with Google to create a draft specification that will alert users about unwanted tracking by Bluetooth item trackers, including Apple's AirTags (and the future Nest Locator Tag).

The technology will allow Bluetooth location-tracking devices to be compatible with unauthorized tracking detection and alerts across iOS and Android.

The specification has been submitted as an Internet-Draft via the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF), with companies such as Samsung, Tile, Chipolo, Eufy, and Pebblebee having interest in supporting the technology.

A production implementation of the specification for unwanted tracking alerts is planned to be released by the end of 2023, and will be supported in in future versions of iOS and Android.

Signing in Google Account without password is now a reality
Google Blog

While signing in any of your accounts, you are usually required to enter your password to make sure that's really you. This might feel annoying as you do it multiple times, but Google's next attempt to deal with this problem is by removing the process of doing so, that means no more entering password for signing in soon.

Just like how you can unlock your phone these days, you can use your PIN, fingerprint or face to sign in. If your device is lost or any suspicious activity happened with your account, you can revoke the specific passkey from your account settings.

Google Account passkeys feature is supported on major platforms and browsers. Existing sign-in methods still work for old platforms if needed, and you can add the passkey to your account via this link to ease the process if interested.
