eSIM transfer to be made easy with Android
AssembleDebug
Your phone connects to your mobile carrier using a SIM card, and as time progressed, its size decreased until it couldn't be shrunken even more. Because of that, the eSIM was created, but the process of linking and transferring was such a mess that Google is working on a solution.
Transferring your eSIM to another Android device will be as simple as scanning a QR code (assuming your old device is still working). The feature is still in its early development stage, as currently it's not usable yet with not much information being revealed yet, but it's a good sign to see that using an eSIM will be a less of a struggle.

Google's latest Android Runtime Update makes app opening 30% faster
Android Blog
Android Runtime (ART) is the engine that powers Android and is responsible for compiling Java and Kotlin into bytecode and executing it.
ART officially became a modular part of the OS (an APEX module) in Android 12, allowing it to be updated via the Play Store instead of a system update.
The latest ART 13 update with runtime & compiler optimizations resulted in apps opening time “improvements of up to 30% on some devices.” and fastest ever adoption of new OpenJDK 11.
The testing process for ART updates involves compiling over 18 million APKs and running app compatibility tests, startup, performance, memory benchmarks on a various Android device, after then the update rolls out gradually to users.
Google said the ART 14 update will jump Android from OpenJDK 11 to OpenJDK 17 along with a new compiler to improve performance while reducing code size.

Developer @AssembleDebug has figured out a way to enable a soon-to-be released feature that will allow you to backup your Locked Folder to the cloud.
When backed up, you'll be able to access the photos even if you uninstall or clear data of Google Photos.
If you'd like to enable this feature, the GappsModFlags channel has a tutorial for that, which requires a rooted device.

The silence disappearance of Pixel Pass happened today
Google Support
Back in 2021 with the release of Pixel 6, Google offered the Pixel Pass subnoscription which had extra cloud storage and YouTube Premium for just $45.
Nearly two years later, Google has ended the plan with existing users receiving $100 worth of Google Store credits as the compensation.
Once the time is up, you can keep those subnoscriptions and purchase a new Pixel device. And if you would like to opt out of the Pixel Pass earlier, you will have to pay the remaining cost of the phone.
The Pixel Pass was supposed to be a program where users would get a phone upgrade every two years, which won't happen. With this whole thing going around, I wonder if it's grounds for a lawsuit.

The September 2023 Android Feature Drop is here! The Android Feature Drop is a roundup of new features in Google apps. The latest drop brings an updated At a Glance widget, new Android Auto apps, and improvements to Lookout, Wallet, and Routines. Here's a 🧵 about what's new:
Because this ALWAYS causes confusion, no, this is NOT the same thing as the Pixel Feature Drop. The Pixel Feature Drop is for new Pixel-exclusive features, while the Android Feature Drop is for new features in Google apps that are available to all Android devices.
1) The Google App's At a Glance widget is getting a visual revamp and new features. The widget will surface helpful information like weather alerts, travel updates, and event reminders. (Note: this is not the same At a Glance widget found on Pixel devices.)
2) With image Q&A, now out of closed beta, the Lookout app can automatically generate denoscriptions from images that have low quality captions or that don't have alt text at all. Users can then use their voice or type to ask questions about the image.
Lookout also now supports 11 new languages, including Japanese, Korean, and Chinese, bringing the total number of supported languages to 34.
3) Google Wallet now supports Pass photo import, letting you digitize any pass that has a barcode or QR code. You can, for example, upload an image of your gym or library card to store a digital version of it in Google Wallet.
4) Apps for Zoom and Webex by Cisco are coming to Android Auto, letting you join conference calls by audio and browse your meeting schedules right from your car display.
5) You can now get Assistant to automatically read out your activity and sleep data (from Fitbit or Google Fit) through a new action in personal Routines. For example, you can add the "get wellness info" action to the "Hey Google, good morning" routine.
