The September 2023 Android Feature Drop is here! The Android Feature Drop is a roundup of new features in Google apps. The latest drop brings an updated At a Glance widget, new Android Auto apps, and improvements to Lookout, Wallet, and Routines. Here's a 🧵 about what's new:
Because this ALWAYS causes confusion, no, this is NOT the same thing as the Pixel Feature Drop. The Pixel Feature Drop is for new Pixel-exclusive features, while the Android Feature Drop is for new features in Google apps that are available to all Android devices.
1) The Google App's At a Glance widget is getting a visual revamp and new features. The widget will surface helpful information like weather alerts, travel updates, and event reminders. (Note: this is not the same At a Glance widget found on Pixel devices.)
2) With image Q&A, now out of closed beta, the Lookout app can automatically generate denoscriptions from images that have low quality captions or that don't have alt text at all. Users can then use their voice or type to ask questions about the image.
Lookout also now supports 11 new languages, including Japanese, Korean, and Chinese, bringing the total number of supported languages to 34.
3) Google Wallet now supports Pass photo import, letting you digitize any pass that has a barcode or QR code. You can, for example, upload an image of your gym or library card to store a digital version of it in Google Wallet.
4) Apps for Zoom and Webex by Cisco are coming to Android Auto, letting you join conference calls by audio and browse your meeting schedules right from your car display.
5) You can now get Assistant to automatically read out your activity and sleep data (from Fitbit or Google Fit) through a new action in personal Routines. For example, you can add the "get wellness info" action to the "Hey Google, good morning" routine.

Material You theming is coming to Google Chrome along with other features
For Google Chrome's 15th birthday, Google has released a bunch of new features.
The Material You design language has arrived to Chrome, with many color schemes that adapt to light or dark mode. The icons and the three dot menu have been improved as well.
The Chrome Web Store has finally received its well needed redesign using Material 3 design language with new extension categories like AI or Editors' spotlight.
Google Search has been integrated into Chrome with a new sidebar that can help you find related searches, learn about the page's source or search something else. Users in the US can also opt into 'SGE while browsing' to get the key points of the website, questions the article answers with links that move to where they're answered.
Safe Browsing will now check in real time if a site is dangerous with a 25% improved protection.
All of these features will come to Chrome in the coming weeks.

Pixel 1 owners can finally enjoy Android 13
LineageOS Gerrit
For a very long time, the Pixel devices have been receiving support from the custom ROM communities, but as time passed by, things are getting tougher as Google stopped updating those old devices. The first generation Pixel device is one of the prime examples at this time, after being stuck on Android 11 development for nearly three years time, it seems like we finally have a new dessert to try out.
All this was possible by a community member rootfan, and also big appreciation to @npjohnson for bringing up the device tree. Now both of these devices will be receiving weekly builds fresh right off from LineageOS, Pixel XL (marlin) on Wednesday and Pixel (sailfish) on Saturday.
As Android 13 is now feasible for the first generation Pixel device, hopefully other maintainers could start to build other ROMs too with the existing device tree. One small step, one giant leap for the Pixel 1 community.

Pixel Watch 2 has been teased
Twitter
Google has yet again teased another device that's about to be released, this time the Pixel Watch 2.
As you can see, the design had not been changed much compared to the previous year with only the watch dial looking slightly different.
The teaser revealed that the Pixel Watch 2 has an IP68 rating, instead of an 5ATM rating found in the Watch 1.
While the Pixel Watch 2 can now resist dust, it can only last for 30 minutes in maximum depth of 1.5 metres when the Watch 1 could withstand the pressure of 50 metres underwater.

More wallpapers for Google's 25th birthday
More Google Store regions are celebrating the brand's 25th birthday, with Google Store US having more wallpapers for us to use! Like the wallpapers from the Japanese Google Store, they have references to the brand such as the Google Search, Chrome Dino or YouTube.
Besides the wallpapers, the US Google Store now has a sale to celebrate the birthday with Nest Wi-Fi, Pixel phones, Pixel Watches, Pixel Buds and other accessories on sale for a reduced price. With any Pixel purchase you'll also receive a mini-tote bag. (it's so cute!)
There are two types of wallpapers: Blueberry Bliss and Lemon Zest with 3 variants for each type and you can download the wallpapers on our channel!

Find My Device version 3 is rolling out now to prepare for the launch of Android's Find My Device network.
A new line has been added to the page for marking a device as "lost". It reads: "
The app also has a BUNCH of new strings pertaining to new features of the Find My Device network, including the ability to temporarily share the location of devices with other people (for 24h, and optionally with only one other person), editing the contact info of accessories that others can read by tapping their phone (in case they're lost), categories of devices (bag, bike, camera, headphones, keys, etc.), set the ring volume of a device (factory default, high, low, or medium), play a sound on located trackers, view the battery level of an accessory, and more.
Also interesting is the responsible use notice:
"
Reminder: The Find My Device app just provides the UI for seeing the location of devices/sending commands. The actual Find My Device service is handled by Google Play Services. The FMDN is part of a separate Play Services module that has not been marked to roll out to users yet.
So no, updating your Find My Device app to v3 won't enable FMDN support, but it is an important step for its eventual rollout.
