- Android 15 is updating the NFC stack to add a new “observe mode.” Observe mode lets devices listen but not respond to NFC readers. On supported devices, apps can request the NfcAdapter to enter observe mode so they then get PollingFrame objects to process.…
Android 15 also:
* Helps apps keep up with the dynamic demands of web-hosted deep links by building in support for more precise Intent resolution
* Adds additional controls to improve the on-device multi-language audio recognition that was introduced in Android 14
* Introduces a new ApplicationStartInfoAPI that gives apps more info on how they were launched;
* Expands OpenJDK API support
* Improves PackageManager’s Stopped State to remove PendingIntents from apps
* Offers a new StorageStats.getAppBytesByDataType(...) API that provides more insight into how much space an app is taking up
* Brings a new mediaProcessing Foreground Service type to help apps migrate away from the dataSync Foreground Service type
* Adds new SQLite APIs that expose advanced features from the underlying SQLite engine that target specific performance issues that can manifest in apps
* Deprecates the Virtualizer class in favor of AudioAttributes.Builder.setSpatializerBehavior
* Enables the elegantTextHeight TextView attribute by default, replacing the compact font used by default with some noscripts that have large vertical metrics with one that’s more readable. The compact font still exists but may not be supported in the future.

Want to try out Android 15 Developer Preview 2? If you aren’t an app developer: don’t. If you are, then here’s what you should know:
- Builds are only available for the Pixel 6, 7, or 8 series devices as well as for the Pixel Tablet and Pixel Fold.
- Once you’ve manually installed a build, you’ll automatically get future Android 15 updates over-the-air.
- You can only manually install these builds by flashing a factory image. Google is not providing full OTA images due to a bug that can happen when sideloading the build that causes the device to show a “device is corrupted” message.
- Flashing a factory image requires unlocking the bootloader of your device, which causes a factory reset.
- If you don’t have a supported Pixel device, you can also try Android 15 DP2 with the Android Emulator in Android Studio.

Pixel 9 series will be available in three different models
OnLeaks | 91mobiles
Half year away and we will be getting the new Pixels soon, but this time it could come in three models instead, specifically Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL.
Images shown over here is the vanilla Pixel 9 model, which will feature a screen size of 6.03-inch, while Pixel 9 Pro being at 6.1-inch. It will still be equipped with two camera lenses, with a minor bump of just 12mm. It also comes with a flat frame with the buttons located at the same place.
Interestingly, it shares the same dimension as its Pro counterpart, at the size of 152.8 x 71.9 x 8.5mm. Another interesting fact is that the SIM card tray is located beside the charging port.

Google has announced that they will indeed bring Gemini Nano support to the regular Pixel 8!
For reference, earlier this month, a Googler during #TheAndroidShow said that Gemini Nano wouldn't be coming to the Pixel 8 because of "some hardware limitations." The limitation in question is memory: the Pixel 8 has 8GB of RAM while the 8 Pro has 12GB.
Gemini Nano is the mobile optimized version of the Gemini LLM that's currently available on the Pixel 8 Pro and Galaxy S24 series. Gemini Nano powers the summarization feature in the Pixel Recorder app as well as Smart Reply in Gboard when using messaging apps likes WhatsApp.
Google says that Gemini Nano will roll out to Pixel 8 users as a "developer preview" in the "next Pixel Feature Drop", ie. the June 2024 Pixel Feature Drop which will also bring Android 14 QPR3. Gemini Nano on the Pixel 8 might not perform as well as it does on the Pixel 8 Pro due to differences in memory specs, which is likely why it's being offered as a developer preview.

Android 15 will bring a Redesigned Volume Panel
Source
Back in 2021, Google released Material You with the Android 12 release
In the upcoming Android 15 release, Google is finally planning to revamp the system volume panel UI.
The new volume panel design features much thicker, pill-shaped sliders.
A 'dot' is placed at the end where the slider’s maximum value is, and the icons are also tappable to quickly mute that stream.
Android 15’s new volume panel is also collapsible.
Tapping the button next to the media volume slider collapses or expands the panel
Apart from the new design, the volume panel will also surface additional controls for things like spatial audio and “noise control.”
The “sound & vibration” header is also gone, and in its place is a persistent media output shortcut.
Google also added some playful animations to the new Android 15 volume panel.

Google agrees to destroy browsing data collected in Incognito mode
The proposed settlement in Brown v. Google will mandate greater disclosure from the company about how it collects information in Incognito mode and put limits on future data collection. If approved by a California federal judge, the settlement could apply to 136 million Google users. The 2020 lawsuit was brought by Google account holders who accused the company of illegally tracking their behavior through the private browsing feature.
The proposal is valued at $5 billion, according to Monday’s court filing, calculated by determining the value of data Google has stored and would be forced to destroy and the data it would be prevented from collecting. Google would need to address data collected in private browsing mode in December 2023 and earlier. Any data that is not outright deleted must be de-identified.

Pleased to settle this lawsuit, which we always believed was meritless. We never associate data with users when they use Incognito mode. We are happy to delete old technical data that was never associated with an individual and was never used for any form of personalization.
