Google no longer developing Material Web Components
MWC offered a library of Material 3 components — Button, FAB, Icon button, Checkbox, Chips, Dialog, Divider, Elevation, Focus ring, List, Menu, Progress indicators, Radio, Ripple, Select, Slider, Switch, Tabs, and Text field — that developers could use on websites.
Earlier this month, the team announced (h/t Artem Russakovskii) that MWC has entered maintenance mode and will no longer see updates with all future plans abandoned.
The original team is “investigating ways to continue development of new features and components, including identifying new maintainers.”

Cancelled Google Pixel Fold Prototype
Here's your first look at cancelled Google Pixel Fold, codenamed "Pipit".
(Images quality are quite bad since they were first posted on XDA but were later deleted)
If “pipit” were to be released, it would’ve come a few months after the Pixel 6 series, so obviously, its specs are a generation behind compared to the current Pixel Fold codenamed "Felix"
Pipit Specifications
Resolution: 1080x2100 px
SoC: Google Tensor G1
Modem: Exynos 5123
• 12MP main (IMX 363, OIS) + 12MP UltraWide (IMX 386)
• NO Telephoto camera
• 8MP outer (IMX 355) + 8MP inner front (IMX 355)
Meanwhile, Felix Specs:
• 1080x2092 px resolution
• Google Tensor G2 SoC
• Exynos 5300 Modem
• 48MP main (IMX 787, OIS) + 12MP UltraWide (IMX 386)
• 11MP Telephoto camera (Samsung 3J1)
• 11MP outer (Samsung 3J1) + 8MP inner front (IMX 355)
Interestingly, Google also developed a prototype version of the device with support for stylus input. Unfortunately, the idea was eventually scrapped.

Google Pixel 9 Series battery details leaked along with a new Pixel charger
The NCC regulatory (Taiwanese FCC Edition) filing has leaked, revealing Pixel 9 series battery sizes, charging speeds and a brand-new 45 W Google-branded charging brick (model GW8L7)
Battery Capacity (typical)
Pixel 9 and 9 Pro: 4558mAh
9 Pro XL: 4942mAh
Pixel 9 Pro Fold: 4560mAh (1183mAh + 3377mAh)
The NCC reports also reveal new charging speeds. However, the tests only reveal an approximate charging speed, not an exact value.

Additionally, all models of Pixel 9 series is reported to feature an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor this time which is an upgrade from optical fingerprint reader used by previous Pixels. The specific unit used is Qualcomm’s 3D Sonic Gen 2 (QFS4008) — the same exact model as the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra.

Google to purge low-quality apps from the Play Store with new policy starting next month
Google is cracking down on low-effort and potentially risky Android apps. The updated Spam and Minimum Functionality policy, effective August 31, 2024, will remove apps that crash, lack content, or don't offer utility. Text-only apps, single wallpaper apps, and unresponsive apps are most at risk.
This move aims to improve app quality and user safety. In 2023, Google blocked 2.28 million policy-violating apps and rejected 200,000 submissions to protect users.
