Google is working on a UI overhaul for Android
Google is overhauling Android’s UI as part of its Material 3 Expressive design. Status bar icons (Wi-Fi, mobile data, aeroplane mode, battery) are updated, and panels have a blurred background instead of solid black. The brightness slider is redesigned, and a split Quick Settings/notifications panel might arrive later.
The blur effect also appears in the app drawer, Recents menu, and PIN screen (along with dynamic-colored dots). The date/weather placement in the lock screen is changed, and a compact notification shelf is added. Volume sliders are thinner with distinct handles, and the media switcher is redesigned as well.
The Settings app now has colourful icons, menu items within cards, and subpage arrows. Pixel Launcher has new icon shapes like “four-sided cookie” and “complex clover.”

As we promised yesterday... here's a closer look to the new battery icons Google is now working on
The icon is sleaker, more modern, and aligns perfectly with Google's MD3 Expressive aesthetics.The rounded corners and subtle gradients give it a fresh, polished look while maintaining clarity at a glance.. although it looks VERY iOS-ish
Make sure to comment your first impressions down below!

The new expressive redesign is finally incoming with the new Android 16 QPR1 beta!
Most of the changes we have previously leaked are now officialized by Google. As spotted on Android 16 QPR1 Beta 1, the presence of this new "expressive design" is all over the system.
Here's a small re-cap of what's to be expected in the upcoming build:
• adding of blur all over the system, such as the app drawer (source) and the launcher overview (source);
• new status bar icons, similar to the ones from iOS (source);
• reworked recents view page with a newer (and cleaner) interface (source);
• clock personalization and wallpaper effects for customizing further your setup (source).
• the long awaited quick settings shown in photos, in contrast to the many experiments done with dual-shade...
...and many more! It seems like developers are really working hard on making Pixel phone's interface more customizable and enjoyable for the end-user, catching up with the latest trends introduced by the different skins present in today's phones market.
Are you happy with these finalized changes? Would you have preferred if Google took some more time and maybe rethought some of their design choices? Let us know below!

Android 16 QPR1 Beta 1
- Build ID: BP31.250502.008
- May 2025 Security Patch
- Play Services: 25.13.33
- This build contains some of the Material 3 Expressive changes covered in last week's announcements, including a visual refresh to notifications, quick settings, the lock screen, and the launcher.
- If you prefer to leave the Beta program and receive the public stable release of Android 16, you can do so without wiping your device by opting out and not installing today’s QPR1 Beta 1 update. If you opt-out of the program after installing Beta 1 or any future updates, all user data on the device will get wiped per usual program guidelines. Opting out will trigger a ‘Downgrade’ OTA. Ignore this update and wait for the Android 16 public release instead.

Google India is offering FREE battery replacement for the Pixel 7a as well as for Pixel 6a users who have their device's battery swelling. Turns out they have been offering it for free since 1st March atleast.
Pro Tip: If they ask which charger you are using, always say that you are using the original Google adapter otherwise they might refuse the FREE replacement.

Google Pixel Leaks: The Wildest and Most Unpredictable in Smartphones
Google Pixel leaks are known as the wildest in the smartphone world because they truly can come from anywhere. Now, the leak arrives from Vancouver, Canada as production crew of 20+ members doing full on commercial shoot with equipment like macro probe lens, a Panavision rig etc
was spotted actively filming an ad for the Pixel 10.
From this ad leak, we also get two real-world shots of the Pixel 10 Pro in black color from afar and this leak confirms the renders that said Pixel 10 series will look exactly the same as Pixel 9 series in design.

Google advises all Android users to update Instagram app to fix battery drain
On the Android Help Community, Google told users to update Instagram to “fix a battery drain issue on Android devices.”
Google has not provided any other details about the problem, including whether a particular manufacturer (Pixel, Samsung, etc.) or Android OS version is impacted, thus indicating this a widespread enough issue.

⚙️ The dual shade implementation for the quick settings is not gone yet!
Previously, a quick settings implementation containing two separate pages, one for the setting tiles and one for the notification shade, was shown as a work-in-progress replacement for the old style.
Fast forward a few weeks of work, especially after the introduction of the new expressive design, Google is taking the steps of Xiaomi and Samsung and letting the user choose between two different styles for checking their notifications and toggling settings.
This new page contains a switch to change between the "combined" style of quick settings and the "separated" one. The former is the one we have known since forever, while the latter is the dual-shade implemented previously leaked.
As seen in the video, this "switching" implementation is anything but finished; combined quick settings resemble the aspect of previous Android versions, while the separated one is buggy and does not react well to additional content present on the pages. Although, the expressive blur is omnipresent, making this early look still fresh.
This feature was initially found in the beta for Android 16 QPR1, but we expect it to be finished for way after it instead. What do you think of this approach, similar to the famous skins on the phone market?
