YouTube Music will rollout free background listening feature to Canada users on Nov 3
Background listening used to be a Premium subnoscription exclusive perk on YouTube services, but seems like Google wanted to make it a free access feature, starting with Canada first.

From November 3, YouTube Music users in Canada on Android and iOS will be able to use background listening for free. Finally you can let your screen off or use other applications when listening to music.

Ads will still be part of the experience, something similar to how Spotify works. Automatically shuffles albums, songs, and playlists is part of this rollout too. (9To5Google)

Finally you can edit time and date of uploaded images/videos in Google Photos on Android device
I am not aware of this but anyway, you can get to edit time and date for uploaded images and videos in Google Photos.

Previously, this action can be done on the desktop web or other third party solutions. By the way, one limitation, only uploaded photos & videos are eligible for the time & date editing tool. Local files are not supported unfortunately, so one disappointment here.

Open an uploaded photo and swipe up, you will see a pencil icon besides the date and time. Pressing it will open up a small panel with date and time mentioned. The time and date editing tool also featured Material You redesign as expected. (9To5Google)

Google Pixel Hub Discussion Group opened
Mmm... finally the moment arrived. The group should be open alongside the channel do, but like there almost no discussion for the first few days, so we decided to close and wait till the channel grew bigger, and this is the time.

Yo, also thanks for the massive growth recently, I thought this channel is reaching 200 at the end of the year but seem like this milestone is done. Thanks @LuZhNan for sharing, in return here his (chinese blog) channel: @gcjiriji.

Everyone would be able to join in the conversation as everything will be in English. For those who are really active in these type of discussion, highly recommend join in the group and have discussion about your Pixel or share some new Google apps feature you found, highly appreciated.

As more apps are getting Material You redesign, Android 12 is around the corner and Pixel 6 launch is near, there should be lots of stuff to be discuss, so hope it can be active :)

Android 12 launching officially soon according to the leaks. I am estimating it releasing on October 4, 10AM PT (5PM GMT), which is the time that Google like to release monthly security patch, which is around this time when this message got sent out.

Might close group again if it is still in dead mode for the next few days. So hope more people can share it out, thanks for supporting us.

Android 12 for Pixel might include more Pixel exclusive features
So far the last Pixel Feature Drop update is on June 2021, and we didn't see it last month and this month for now. Seems like Google might be just working on it with the Android 12 releases for their Google Pixel.

From the Android Developer Blog, we can see that the update will come to Pixel devices in the next few weeks. Just later, the Android team told 9to5Google that it’s “putting the finishing touches on a special release with Pixel-exclusive and Pixel-first experiences on Android 12.”

“Putting the finishing touches” is Google’s explanation for why Android 12 is not available on day one for Pixel phones, while it says to expect a “special release.” “Pixel-exclusive and Pixel-first experiences” hinted that the next Pixel Feature Drop could be a very big change.

Material You in Google first party applications are gradually rolling out in the past few months, but still some apps in Pixel like Digital Wellbeing, Google app, Play Store and many more haven't got it. So probably Google is trying to make an all-out effort to push the redesign to all of their apps first before releasing Android 12 stable update.

Also don't forget that Google is really focusing on their Pixel 6 releases. Google might want to introduce all the software features of it brand new Pixel in a grand announcement rather just simply giving OTA updates for older devices and make a blog post about it. (9To5Google)

Now Playing on Pixel gaining UI redesign with favorite feature & cloud search
Pixel's Now Playing is getting some interface updates & new features.

Android System Intelligence version S.6 on Pixel 5 hinted points that an upcoming Now Playing redesign will adds a three-tab interface. A “History” view will be joined by “Favorites” and “Summary” in the bottom bar.

The update also introduces "Now Playing search". If the song you're finding is not in the local database, you’ll see a search icon that can be added to the lockscreen. Tapping on it will send Google a “short, digital audio fingerprint to identify what’s playing" which will require Internet connection.

Currently the redesign is not rolling out yet, and the update for Android System Intelligence is not widely available. It will show up in the launch of Android 12 for Pixel devices probably. (9To5Google)

New YouTube Music Material You widget rolling out for some
YouTube Music "Turntable" widget is starting to appear for some users today.

The new widget provides “Quick access to your most recently played tracks” and is 3×2 by default. You can expand it to use up the whole screen if you want. Currently there only two action buttons, one for play pause at the bottom and one for like/unlike at the top.

The cover art doesn't spin for now when the music is playing, also doesn't appear to rotate with the current play position. Probably the widget is still in early stage development, so we just gonna wait for the stable rollout of the widget. You can try it out if you are on Android 12, but it will be usable for just a few minutes before the app starts to sync. (9To5Google)
