Here are some basic facts about the flag of Poland:
🇲🇨 The Polish flag / Flaga Polski. In Polish, the word flag - flaga - is feminine.
✋ The Polish flag is a horizontal bicolor, consisting of two equally sized fields: white (top) and red (bottom). According to heraldic rules, it refers to the colors of the national emblem – a white eagle on a red field. The fact that white is at the top is also significant. The eagle in the emblem is a more important part of this symbol than the background. That's why the flag is white and red.
There is a variant with the coat of arms of Poland placed in the middle of the white stripe.
🔥 Since 2004, May 2 has been Polish Flag Day. By the way, the full, formal name of Poland is the Republic of Poland (Rzeczpospolita Polska).
White and red were first recognized as national colors on May 3, 1792.
💥 During the period of partitions (1795-1918), when Poland was divided among Russia, Prussia, and Austria, the white and red flag became a symbol of Polish national identity and a rallying point for independence movements.
The white and red bicolor was officially adopted as the national flag of Poland in 1919, following the country's re-establishment as an independent nation after World War I.
What do the colours of the Polish flag symbolise? White means purity, loyalty and nobility. Red means courage and bravery.🤍 ❤️
