🇺🇸 The Polish(🇵🇱) defence minister, Mariusz Błaszczak, yesterday headed for talks in Washington 🇺🇸 with his US 🇺🇸 counterpart Lloyd Austin. The two sides “agreed to work together to help the Polish 🇵🇱 military become one of the most capable in Europe”. Austin and Błaszczak discussed the possibility of accelerating deliveries of military equipment already procured by Poland 🇵🇱. Warsaw has so far reached agreements to purchase, among others, Patriot air defence systems, HIMARS rocket launchers, F-35 combat aircraft and 250 Abrams tanks. Błaszczak noted that the purchases will be made possible thanks in part to the new "Homeland Defence Act"(Ustawa o obronie Ojczyzny) introduced last month which will boost defence spending to 3% of GDP, one of the highest levels in NATO. The defence minister said that while in Washington 🇺🇸 he had “strongly emphasised the fact that strengthening Poland’s 🇵🇱 capabilities means strengthening the entire eastern flank of the North Atlantic Alliance”

🇺🇲 The Polish(🇵🇱) government is doubling the size of its investment programme for the railway network 🚄

The costs are predicted to be of 11 billion PLN (2.38 billion €), which will enable the completion of more than 1,200 kilometres of lines across the country. Since 2015 Poland 🇵🇱 has upgraded and built more than 800 railway stations, sub-stations and about 6,000 kilometres of tracks 🛤️ The total value of all investments currently being carried out on the railway network 🚈 across Poland 🇵🇱 amounts to over 40 billion PLN (8.63 billion €)
