Only four countries out of 28 EU Member States were responsible for 51.3% of the EU total GHG emissions (Italy 9.8%; France 10.8%; the United Kingdom 11.3% and Germany 20.9%). The greenhouse emissions were the highest in Germany (21.9 thousand tonnes) and the United Kingdom (11.3 thousand tonnes) among the EU Member States in 2017.

Figure 6 shows the emissions curve over the road speed for gasoline vehicles using Equation (10). Equation (10) is relevant to the vehicles sampled in 2000. Of course, this curve differs by vehicle.
The emissions factor takes a minimum value around 60–70 km/h and higher values at lower speed ranges.

Figure 3(a) shows that, at low speed, car emits the highest CO while higher speed emits minimum pollutant. The greener speed range is 60–100 km/h in terms of emission.

Finally we can conclude by analyzing all those graphs that 60–80 km/h is the best average speed both in terms of energy effciency and in terms of greener environment.

Although the number of vehicles in the EU increased by 11% from 2010 to 2018, the average CO2 emissions per kilometre from new passenger cars decreased by at least 10% in all EU Member States (Fig. 4.). The most significant decrease occurred in Bulgaria, Latvia, Cyprus, Finland, Netherlands and Greece by 20%, 20.4%, 20.9%, 21.8%, 22.3% and 22.7%, respectively.

Für mittlere Distanzen steht das E-Bike ganz oben auf der Rangliste der klimafreundlichen Verkehrsmittel. Mit gerade mal 5,4 Gramm CO2 pro Kilometer (Herstellung und Ladung der Akkus eingerechnet) sind E-Bikes unter allen motorisierten Verkehrsmitteln mit Abstand am klimafreundlichsten.

Deshalb ist für grosse Distanzen die Benützung von Zug und Bus sinnvoll.
