Never forget that wildfires:
a) many are generated by humans

b) are an huge CO2 problem, see a)
c) to fight wildfires we need to use planes etc., which is another huge CO2 pollution
d) this just increase the problem of deforestation, which just make all things worse. Check next pictures too

Wildfires transform forests from carbon sinks into sources.

2023 Canada wildfires emissions have already doubled previous annual record https://perma.cc/83EG-VNCZ
Currently (3rd August 2023), the total wildfire carbon emissions from Canada are around 290 megatons, while the previous record registered in 2014 of 138 megatons.

Boreal fires, typically accounting for 10% of global fire carbon dioxide emissions, contributed 23% (0.48 billion metric tons of carbon) in 2021, by far the highest fraction since 2000. (from Record-high CO2 emissions from boreal fires in 2021)

Wildfires, which release about 90 Tg CO2 annually into the atmosphere over the continuous U.S., are an important factor for the carbon cycle in this region.
The wildfire emissions of CO2 in the contiguous U.S. are expected to increase by 50% by 2050 and be doubled by 2100 due to the greenhouse effect. (from CO2 Emissions from Wildfires in the U.S.: Present Status and Future Trends)

So again, don't play with fire! See previous post

Don't be average, be better!
The effects on GHG emissions of a reduction in the speed limit from 50 km/h to 30 km/h are dependent on multiple factors, including the type of model used to assess the effects (average speed or microsimulation), and it is difficult to draw generalised conclusions. For a typical New Zealand traffic mix, VEPM predicts that a reduction in average speed from 50 km/h to 30 km/h would increase CO2-e emissions, from vehicles on the affected road, by 24%.

In average speed models the emission functions tend to be quite flat in the range 60-100 km/h.

Overall, this is consistent with findings in literature and we consider it likely that speed limit changes from 100 km/h to 80 km/h will result in small reductions in CO2 emissions from vehicles travelling on the affected roads, in the order of 10% or less.

PS: 60 mph = 97km/h
