Title: Two PhD Student Positions in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning Tools for UAV Communications.
> Denoscription: It is my pleasure to announce two openings at the University of Agder, located in the Southernmost part of Norway. This beautiful region enjoys the benefits of living in Scandinavia (including an advanced society, a top-end welfare state, a clean and natural environment) without suffering from the adversities of nordic climates.
The research project at hand is carried out by 11 researchers from TU Delft, the University of Vigo, Gradiant, and the University of Agder and aims at developing the technology of autonomous UAVs with on-board base stations that navigate throughout the airspace to provide network connectivity in areas where it is weak or inexistent. Needless to motivate the potential and timeliness of this exciting research topic, which combines machine learning, artificial intelligence, and UAV applications.
Each position has a different focus:
1- wireless communications, machine learning, signal processing, and artificial intelligence.
2- control theory, aerial robotics, and artificial intelligence..
> University of Adger, Norway.

#Postdoc position
Title: Postdoc in multiple antenna communications beyond 5G.
> Denoscription: The use of antenna arrays is at the core of the fifth-generation (5G) wireless communication technology. By using boxes with a large number of individually controllable antennas, the wireless signals can be directed at the users, so that more signal energy is reaching them. In addition, several users can receive data simultaneously and be separated in the spatial dimension, instead of in time and frequency as in traditional systems. In these ways, wireless technology becomes more spectral and energy efficient. Multi-antenna communications are here to stay, but how will technology evolve beyond 5G?
In this postdoc project, you will develop theory and algorithms for new concepts that have the potential to revolutionize multiple antenna communications. Three examples are user-centric “cell-free” distributed antenna systems, holographic MIMO, and intelligent reflecting surfaces. The research will be theory-driven and focus on establishing the fundamental performance limits of one or more of these new concepts, as well as developing effective signal processing algorithms and protocols to approach these limits in practical contexts. It also includes deciding in which contexts the technologies can provide decisive improvements over current technology..

Title: Funded PhD Positions in Computational Privacy at Imperial College London's Data Science Institute.
> Denoscription: The Computational Privacy Group, led by Dr. Yves-Alexandre de Montjoye, at Imperial College London’s Data Science Institute at the Department of Computing has funded openings for PhD students (from UK, EU and overseas) to work on topics related to privacy, data protection, and the impact of algorithms on society.
Topics of current interests include, for instance, individual privacy in large-scale behavioral datasets; re-identification attacks against privacy-preserving data systems or aggregates, privacy of machine learning models, privacy engineering solutions such as differential privacy and query-based systems, ethics and fairness in AI, and computational social science.
Research context. For the first time in history, we have the ability to amass large amounts of medical, behavioral and social demographic data about humans and societies. While this data has the potential to fundamentally transform industries such as healthcare and transportation, its collection and use also pose significant challenges. The data itself can be prone to serious privacy violations, while the algorithm-based solutions built on top of it may open the way to large-scale discrimination and bias.
Research projects. Projects are defined in close collaboration with the student, but could tackle, for example:
The definition of formal properties and metrics of privacy or fairness in AI decision-making;The development of privacy-enhancing data processing systems; The development of new machine learning techniques for behavioral user fingerprinting.
Our projects include a mix of theoretical and empirical work with large-scale data from mobile phones, credit card transactions, or browsers, possibly in collaboration with industry partners..
