Research activity
The researcher will explore the spatial and temporal variations of societal vulnerabilities to climate extremes at the global scale. For this scope, the researcher will develop novel methodologies by integrating climate datasets, Earth observations and geospatial socioeconomic statistics within an artificial intelligence framework. The combination of these elements will provide an enhanced understanding of the vulnerability dynamics and underlying mechanisms in response to global changes. Outcomes of the research activity will contribute to the identification of hotspot areas highly vulnerable to climate extremes and to the definition of effective adaptation strategies, ultimately contributing to foster the transition to a climate-resilient development. The work will be conducted within the Horizon SPARCCLE project in a young and multi-disciplinary team with a wide network of international collaborations.

I'm currently hiring a postdoc and recruiting 1-2 PhD students to join my research group at Duke (the COOL Lab) in Fall 2025! 🛰💧🏔❄️
The PhD student(s) will be working on a newly funded NASA grant investigating drivers of Arctic lake variability using NASA's new SWOT satellite. The postdoctoral scholar will work with SWOT data or on another northern hydrology topic relevant to COOL Lab research. Both the postdoc and PhD students will likely have opportunities to conduct fieldwork in Alaska. The deadline for the Duke Earth and Climate Sciences PhD program application is January 9th, and the priority review deadline for the postdoc application is January 10th. More info, including application links, can be found here: https://lnkd.in/giJPGRaA.
Also, several COOL Lab members will be attending and presenting at AGU in DC next week. I'd be happy to chat there with anyone interested in joining our group! More info here: https://lnkd.in/gvRQvthe
