We are looking for a new hashtag#PhDcandidate to join our research team here at the Department of Structural Engineering, Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU).

The project focuses on energy absorption in additively manufactured structures and materials under hashtag#shock and hashtag#impact loading.

What we offer:
✔️ A project combining testing, modelling, and simulations to understand structural behaviour at high deformation rates.
✔️ The opportunity to work within a research group known for its expertise on impact mechanics and energy-absorbing structures.
✔️ A leading role in developing next-generation energy-absorbing structures and materials, leveraging advanced experimental techniques, numerical simulations, and machine learning.

While additive manufacturing enables the design of highly efficient energy-absorbing structures, we lack fundamental knowledge on their internal deformation mechanisms under extreme loading conditions. Current measurement methods primarily capture external deformations, leaving the microstructural behaviour largely unexplored. This PhD project will bridge this gap by using high-fidelity 3D reconstructions of deformed samples, uncovering new design principles for shock- and impact-resistant materials and structures.
