MS/Ph.D. Position in Coastal Plant Ecology at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette

The Zerebecki Coastal Plant Ecology Lab (https://lnkd.in/gTCeAUKU) at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette invites applications for a PhD or MS position starting in Spring 2025.

Research in the lab focuses on: 1) the ecological effects of genetic diversity within coastal and wetland foundation plant species; 2) eco-evolutionary feedbacks in coastal marshes; and 3) the impacts and responses of wetlands to changing environmental conditions. Current lab projects are exploring these questions in salt marsh and mangrove habitats and within coastal restoration projects. We use a variety of techniques in our work, including field surveys, field and greenhouse experiments, and molecular analyses, to address ecological and evolutionary questions.


The desired candidate will be interested in coastal plant ecology. They will lead the development of a project exploring ecological questions within coastal salt marshes in alignment with their own interests. The student will have opportunities to conduct experiments in the lab, greenhouse, and field setting, working with a fun, and supportive lab group.

Candidates with experience conducting fieldwork in aquatic and wetland ecosystems, or with standard molecular assays (e.g., DNA extractions, and PCR), possessing strong quantitative and writing skills, ability to work collaboratively and independently and with a passion for ecology are particularly encouraged to apply.

A BS (and preferably a MS if interested in pursing a PhD) in the field of ecology, ecology & evolution, botany, marine biology, environmental science, biology or other related field of study is required.

The graduate student will be supported with a teaching and/or research assistantship consisting of a $22,000 USD per academic year (10-month) stipend and a tuition waiver. Note this minimum stipend is a starting point: additional top-up is possible contingent on scholarships and additional funds in the lab.

PhD Position(s) in Environmental Radioactivity University of Tennessee, Knoxville
The Donaher Lab at the University of Tennessee Knoxville invites applications for 1-2 fully funded PhD student positions beginning Spring 2025 (preferred) or Fall 2025.

The PhD student(s) will join the Environmental Radioactivity Lab in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, led by Dr. Sarah Donaher. Students will have the flexibility to propose projects of their own interest that are relevant to the lab goals or work on existing projects such as 1) the role of microplastics as vectors for other contaminants, 2) metal mobility and bioavailability in wetlands, and 3) applications of biological tissues in environmental forensics.

The hydroclimatology group (https://lnkd.in/dUCbfVZs) in the Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences at University of Nebraska-Lincoln is inviting applications for a PhD position in land-atmosphere interactions and climate modeling. The PhD student will work on a recently funded project about land-atmosphere interactions in flash drought over the US. The research topics include: characterizing flash droughts and conventional droughts in the US using different datasets and metrics; diagnosing the land-surface and atmospheric processes before and during droughts; and quantifying the land-surface contributions to flash drought development using a novel set of WRF experiments.

Required qualifications:

The Environmental Biotechnology Research Group in the Department of Civil, Environmental and Construction Engineering (CECE) and Water Resources Research Center (WRRC) at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa (UHM) has one fully funded Ph.D. positions available starting in Spring 2025. The research focus of the group is on (1) decarbonization of centralized water resource recovery facilities and (2) development of next-generation onsite wastewater treatment systems. The selected candidate will receive a competitive research assistant stipend, a full tuition waiver, and a life insurance and other student benefits.
Qualificaitons
Successful candidates should have a B.S. and M.S. degree in environmental science and engineering, or a related field. Previous research experience in environmental engineering, biological processes, environmental chemistry, and environmental microbiology is preferred. PhD student assistantships available to participate in research projects exploring intraspecific trophic dynamics of fish in large lakes. Specifically the projects will likely explore isotopic and lipid variation of lake trout ecotypes in Lake Superior and yellow perch ecology in drowned rivermouth lakes of Lake Michigan.
