Simply put, Flushed Away is a cinematic masterpiece. The deep undertones of societal issues such as the class divide and racism extend much greater than the simple sewage plot would let on. To fully appreciate this genius commentary, one must experience this film multiple times. Notice how I used the word "experience" instead of "watch" because Flushed Away is truly an experience like no other. Its seemingly childish plot brings the viewer on an emotional journey that promotes great personal growth and honest reflection. I am willing to admit that I did shed a few tears when Sid hit da griddy to end the genocide of all rodents. It was a truly moving moment that perfectly sums up the complexity of this timeless literature. You could say that Dreamworks fulfilled its "duty" to educate the children of the world on sensitive topics such as mass genocide. The juxtaposition of the sensitive topics of poop (lmao) and the potential eradication of an entire species perfectly allows for there to be a light-hearted tone while still adequately discussing the implications of supporting such a movement as killing off all rodents. My only problem with this film was that Gangnam Style was only played 4 times throughout the duration of this otherwise flawless masterpiece. I feel like this was a cowardly move by the people at Dreamworks because it really came off as a somewhat sugarcoated approach due to the fact that the anthem was lacking in some of the most influential scenes such as da griddy scene with Sid. Overall Over the Hedge is a great movie that really defines what it means to make a statement that holds meaning.
