Charli XCX while writing her magnum opus “White Mercedes”
You like Tame Impala? His early work was a little too new wave for my taste. But when Currents came out in '15, I think Kevin really came into his own, commercially and artistically. The whole album has a clear, crisp sound, and a new sheen of consummate professionalism that really gives the songs a big boost. He's been compared to Victoria Legrand, but I think Kevin has a far more bitter, cynical sense of humor. In '20, Kevin released this; The Slow Rush, his most accomplished album. I think his undisputed masterpiece is 'Lost in Yesterday'. A song so catchy, most people probably don't listen to the lyrics. But they should! Because it's not just about the inevitability of time and the pitfalls of nostalgia. It's also a personal statement from Kevin himself.
