Anyone in the UK may own a gun, so long as they are at least 14 and don’t have a history of severe violence, criminality or mental illness. There are restrictions on certain kinds of guns. Concealable hand guns have to be kept at a secure firing range, not on your person or in the house, unless you live in Northern Ireland and can show the police reason to think a paramilitary group is after you. Civilians aren’t allowed to own automatics unless they work in maritime security, and only certain types of semi-automatic are permitted. Heavy ordnance such as tanks and anti-aircraft guns in civilian hands may only be fired at an army firing range.
