On Monday, the WHO's Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus raised concerns that the draft of the Pandemic agreement may not be finalized by May of this year as previously agreed.
In this Informal Session, WHO Secretary Tedros blames "fake news, lies, and conspiracy theories" for the slow progress on the WHO's pandemic agreement.
"The IHR working group are operating amidst a torrent of fake news, lies, and conspiracy theories. There are those who claim the pandemic agreement and IHR will cede sovereignty to WHO and give the WHO Secretary the power to impose lockdowns or vaccine mandates on countries," Tedros stated. "You know this is fake news, lies, and conspiracy theories. You know these claims are completely false. You know the agreement will give the WHO no such powers. We cannot allow this historic agreement this milestone in global health to be sabotaged by those who spread lies."

ICJ Ruling On Gaza Genocide Is A Historic Victory For The Palestinians That Israel Vows To Defy
While the 17-judge panel ordered Israel to halt any genocidal acts in Gaza, it stopped short of ordering immediate ceasefire.
THE 17-JUDGE PANEL at the International Court of Justice in The Hague issued a series of rulings on Friday about Israel’s conduct during its war against Gaza that constitute a significant legal defeat for Israel and its chief defenders, the United States and Germany.
It found that there is a basis to proceed with the case against Israel for genocide and that South Africa had solid foundation to bring its case before the world’s highest court. The ICJ’s chief judge, Joan Donoghue, said provisional measures against Israel were necessary because “the catastrophic humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip is at serious risk of deteriorating further before the court renders its final judgement.” The full proceedings against Israel will take many years to complete.
At the same time, the court did not go as far in its rulings as South Africa wished and did not explicitly order Israel to immediately halt its military attacks against Gaza or to lift its state of siege. Instead, it ordered Israel to “take all measures within its power to prevent the commission of all acts within the scope of Article II of the Genocide convention.”
Both the Biden administration and the Israeli government seized on this aspect of the court’s ruling to argue that this amounted to a green light for Israel to continue its military assault on Gaza. “The court’s ruling is consistent with our view that Israel has the right to take action to ensure the terrorist attacks of October 7 cannot be repeated, in accordance with international law,” a State Department spokesperson said. “The court did not make a finding about genocide or call for a ceasefire in its ruling."

COVID-19 Testing Firm Exposed 1.3 Million Records Including Patient Names, Email Addresses, Dates of Birth, and Passport Numbers
Medical data leaks have increased in the Covid-era.
During the Covid-19 pandemic, data protection and privacy concerns took center stage as governments and organizations worldwide implemented various overreaching measures to control the spread of the virus. One of the most significant and controversial of these measures was the introduction of vaccine passports and health passes.
These digital certificates indicated an individual’s vaccination status and, in many cases, were required for access to public spaces, travel, and certain services. This move marked a drastic shift in the way personal health information was used and shared, raising serious concerns about data privacy and surveillance.
But aside from that, constant mandatory testing opened up new ways that people’s data could be collected and shared.
CoronaLab, one of the largest Dutch COVID-19 test providers, seemingly exposed a password-less database to the internet. A total of 1.3 million sets of coronavirus testing records were potentially compromised, but thus far, no party has claimed responsibility for the oversight. This database contained an alarming variety of vital personal information including patient names, passport numbers, email addresses, and other data.

Israeli Ministers Melt Down in Cabinet Meeting and Attack Military’s Plan to Probe Oct. 7 Failures
A bitter dispute over who should participate in an IDF investigation into security failures contributing to the October 7 attacks broke out at the security cabinet as it was ending its debate about an Israeli plan for the Day After.
Several ministers had harsh words for IDF Chief-of-Staff Herzl Halevi during the discussion, which Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ended at midnight.
Opposition leader Yair Lapid, who is a former Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, said that the leaks were proof that his government needed to be replaced, even during the war.
“The leaks from the cabinet last night are a disgrace and further proof that this cabinet is dangerous. The State of Israel must replace the government and its leader. These people are not worthy of the sacrifice and heroism of IDF men and women, and will not be able to make strategic decisions. They have to go now.”
Labor Party leader Merav Michaeli issued a similar statement.
“Every minute that these people make decisions about our lives endangers life and limb.
“Standing with the Chief of Staff and senior IDF officers who have to battle a hostile government that is fighting them instead of Hamas. Once again, it is clear how dangerous Netanyahu is for Israel and how urgent it is to replace him immediately.
“This time, you won't be able to escape,” she said.

Ukraine Says Corrupt Officials Stole $40 Million Meant To Buy Arms For The War With Russia
Employees from a Ukrainian arms firm conspired with defense ministry officials to embezzle almost $40 million earmarked to buy 100,000 mortar shells for the war with Russia, Ukraine’s security service reported.
The SBU said late Saturday that five people have been charged, with one person detained while trying to cross the Ukrainian border. If found guilty, they face up to 12 years in prison.
The investigation comes as Kyiv attempts to clamp down on corruption in a bid to speed up its membership in the European Union and NATO. Officials from both blocs have demanded widespread anti-graft reforms before Kyiv can join them.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy was elected on an anti-corruption platform in 2019, long before Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. Both the president and his aides have portrayed the recent firings of top officials, notably that of Ivan Bakanov, former head of the State Security Service, in July 2022, as proof of their efforts to crack down on graft.

Three US Army soldiers were killed and at least two dozen service members were injured in a drone attack overnight on a small US outpost in Jordan, US officials told CNN, marking the first time US troops have been killed by enemy fire in the Middle East since the beginning of the Gaza war.
The killing of three Americans at Tower 22 in Jordan near the border with Syria is a significant escalation of an already-precarious situation in the Middle East. Officials said the drone was fired by Iran-backed militants and appeared to come from Syria.
US Central Command confirmed in a statement on Sunday that three service members were killed and 25 injured in a one-way drone attack that “impacted at a base in northeast Jordan.”
President Joe Biden vowed on Sunday to hold those responsible for the attack “to account,” saying that while facts are still being gathered, “We know it was carried out by radical Iran-backed militant groups operating in Syria and Iraq.”

SDF Raids Al-Hol As ISIS Seeks Resurgence
ISIS militants in SDF prisons constitute an 'army in waiting' and have been used by the US against resistance forces in the past
US and Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) are carrying out a security operation in Al-Hol Camp in the countryside of Hasakah, northeastern Syria, allegedly to pursue ISIS sleeper cells, North Press Agency (NPA) reported on 27 January.
The SDF’s Media Center announced the initiation of the third phase of “Operation Humanity and Security” after the SDF obtained confessions from detained ISIS operatives suggesting the group is planning an attack on the camp in cooperation with ISIS sleeper cells within it.
The Al-Hol Camp was established in 2019 after US and SDF forces defeated ISIS and occupied Syrian territory the extremist group had previously controlled. Many ISIS members, as well as their wives and children, have been held in the camp since that time.
Early on 16 January, ISIS launched a rocket attack on an SDF prison holding as many as 5,000 ISIS prisoners, triggering a mass breakout attempt.
Syria researcher Charles Lister wrote in Foreign Policy last week that ISIS is enjoying a resurgence and that 10,000 ISIS militants are detained within at least 20 makeshift prisons in northeastern Syria, constituting an ISIS “army in waiting” and its “next generation.”
The comments raised fears the US, which has supported ISIS in the past, may use ISIS militants to counter forces from the Islamic Resistance in Iraq (IRI), a coalition of Shia armed groups that seek to expel US forces from Syria and Iraq.
