The leader of the agency said Israeli residents had set the fire, which caused extensive damage, but that no staff had been injured.
The main United Nations agency that aids Palestinians, known as UNRWA, said on Thursday that it would temporarily close its headquarters in East Jerusalem for the safety of its staff after parts of the compound were set on fire following weeks of attacks.
“This evening, Israeli residents set fire twice to the perimeter of the UNRWA Headquarters in occupied East Jerusalem,” said the leader of the agency, Philippe Lazzarini, on social media. The fire caused extensive damage to the outdoor areas of the compound, Mr. Lazzarini said, but that no workers from UNRWA or other U.N. agencies suffered injuries. He added that some of the workers “had to put out the fire themselves as it took the Israeli fire extinguishers and police a while before they turned up.”
..On Friday, Israeli police said in a statement that an investigation was started on “suspicion of a brush fire ignition” next to the UNRWA facility and that preliminary findings suggested it was started by minors and was therefore not subject to criminal prosecution. It offered no further details, but said the investigation was still going on.
..The attack put the lives of U.N. staff at “serious risk” and came two days after protesters threw stones at staff members at the compound, Mr. Lazzarini said.
Protests by Israeli settlers calling for UNRWA’s closure have been continuing for months. “On several occasions, Israeli extremists threatened our staff with guns,” Mr. Lazzarini said in Thursday’s social media post, adding that under international law, it is Israel’s responsibility “as an occupying power to ensure that United Nations personnel and facilities are protected at all times.”
Many Israeli officials have called for years for UNRWA to be dismantled, and the agency lost funding from some donor countries earlier this year after Israel accused a dozen of its employees of being involved in the Hamas-led attack on Israel on Oct. 7. [these accusations came RIGHT after the UN's ICJ released their historic Jan 26th verdict]
An independent review commissioned by the U.N. and released in April found that Israel had not provided any evidence to support its further accusations that many UNRWA staff members were members of terrorist organizations.

2024 Bilderberg meeting to be held in Madrid
The 2024 Bilderberg meeting will take place in Madrid from May 30 to June 2.
The newspaper Nya Tider has obtained an e-mail that shows that EU Minister Jessika Roswall (M) was invited by Sara Nyman, employed at the Swedish company Investor as executive assistant to Marcus Wallenberg. Wallenberg is vice-chairman of Investor and a member of the Bilderberg Group’s exclusive steering committee.
However, Roswall could not attend the meeting. It is not known which Swedish ministers will attend. The Bilderberg Group has a strategy of not publicizing the meeting and its participants until the last moment.
The newspaper could previously reveal that the government’s NATO negotiator Oscar Stenström attended last year’s Bilderberg meeting in Lisbon. He was not on the official list of participants and shortly after the meeting he resigned from his position at the Government Offices and was instead employed by Marcus Wallenberg.
The Bilderberg Group is an exclusive lobby group that brings together over 100 people from all over the world.

Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office releases bodycam footage of one of its officers shooting and killing U.S. Air Force Senior Airman Roger Fortson.
Police had responded to a "disturbance" call and knocked on the wrong door.
According to Fortson's girlfriend who was on a FaceTime call with him, Fortson had no clue what was going on when he heard a knock at the door.
Out of caution, he retrieved his gun when he didn't hear the officer say anything.
When he opened the door, his gun appeared to be facing the ground however the officer shot him anyways.
"Step back!" the officer shouted as he began firing.
Fortson was shot 6 times and was rushed to the hospital where he died.

Israeli Intel Ignored Hamas Preparations for Ground Attack: Report
Haaretz says the army leadership refused to believe Hamas could break through the border fence and ceased preparations for a possible Hamas ground attack
The Israeli newspaper Haaretz published an investigation on 9 May, providing further details of the alleged intelligence failures that allowed Hamas to launch Operation Al-Aqsa Flood on 7 October successfully.
The investigation concluded that leaders in the army refused to consider or prepare for the possibility of a Hamas ground invasion of Israel and instead focused on the threat from Hamas missile attacks. ....
Haaretz states that during the Hamas attack on 7 October, the “border fence was revealed to be semi-imaginary” and that fighters from Hamas’ elite Nukhba brigade breached it at 44 different points.
According to the Haaretz report, the Israeli army held two exercises in previous years to prepare for the possibility of Hamas breaching the border before the fence’s completion.
The first was in 2016 and involved responding to a Hamas raid that would use cars, motorcycles, and paragliders to breach the fence into Israel and then move toward the southern settlements (kibbutzim), around which army soldiers were deployed.
However, a security source who participated in the exercise stated that it was soon stopped without any clear plan to prevent such an attack.
“After a few hours, Edelstein decided to stop when the ‘enemy’ had already reached the Ad Halom junction in the north [near Ashdod] and others had reached Kiryat Gat in the south – without the Southern Command and the Gaza Division knowing how to respond,” the source said.
Despite the failure of the exercise, the army leadership opposed holding a second training in 2019 and insisted on focusing on Hamas’ missile capabilities.
Any officers warning of a possible Hamas ground invasion were either ignored or ridiculed...
Analysts also observed suspicious behavior on the night of 6 October, just hours before the attack...
Shortly after 11 pm, a soldier from Military Intelligence burst into the Gaza Division’s operations room, shouting, “Ali Al Qadhi is behaving suspiciously!” Haaretz says the soldier was “calling out a name familiar to everybody there – Qadhi, a Hamas operative...commander"...
The warnings led top Israeli army and intelligence officials to hold emergency meetings early the next morning, including one in person at 3 am attended by Shin Bet chief Ronan Bar. However, the military leadership issued no warnings to the soldiers...

Hamas Leader Sinwar ‘Not in Rafah’ as Israel Widens Assault
Israel has ordered more civilians to flee neighborhoods in eastern Rafah
Hamas political leader in Gaza, Yahya Sinwar, is not directing the movement's forces from Rafah, two officials familiar with the matter told The Times of Israel on 11 May, as the Israeli army prepares to push further into the crowded city on the Egypt-Gaza border.
After seven months of war and occupation in Gaza, the Israeli military has not been able to kill or capture Sinwar or the leader of Hamas' military wing, Mohammed Deif, despite repeated claims by Israeli officials that the army was near capturing them.
The two officials speaking to The Times of Israel cited recent intelligence assessments claiming Sinwar is hiding in underground tunnels in the city of Khan Yunis, five miles north of Rafah. A third official who is Israeli claimed that Sinwar is still in Gaza.
On 24 April, a source within Hamas told The New Arab that Sinwar is "effectively leading the movement on the ground," dismissing Israeli claims that Sinwar is hiding in the tunnel networks, which the source said were "attempts by Netanyahu and his cohorts to obfuscate their failure in achieving stated objectives before the Israeli populace and allies."
Sinwar "recently inspected areas that witnessed clashes between the resistance and the occupation army and met with some fighters of the movement above ground and not in the tunnels," he added...
On Monday, Israel launched its long-anticipated ground offensive in Rafah and took over the border crossing with Egypt. This is preventing aid from entering Gaza and blocking any further people, including the injured, from escaping the war to Egypt.
On Saturday, the army issued orders for Palestinians to evacuate several additional neighborhoods in eastern Rafah, including the Rafah and Shaboura camps and the neighborhoods of Jeneina and Khirbat al-Adas.
The civilians are being told to move to an expanded designated "humanitarian zone" in the Al-Mawasi and Khan Yunis areas.

US Offers Israel Intel on Hamas Leaders in Exchange for Limited Rafah Op
US National Security Council spokesman John Kirby said on Thursday that intelligence to locate Hamas leaders was already being given to Israel
The US has offered Israel “sensitive intel” on the whereabouts of Hamas leaders in the Gaza Strip if it agrees not to launch a full-scale assault on the southernmost city of Rafah, according to an 11 May Washington Post report.
Four sources are quoted by the outlet as saying that Washington “is offering Israel valuable assistance if it holds back, including sensitive intelligence to help the Israeli military pinpoint the location of Hamas leaders and find the group’s hidden tunnels.”
Washington Post also said the US offered to erect large encampments for Palestinians who have already fled the besieged southern city, as well as help build infrastructure for providing aid to Gaza.
Another official said Israel has given assurances to the US that its army will not fully invade Rafah until around 800,000 of the over one million stranded civilians trapped in the city are evacuated.
On Thursday, US National Security Council spokesman John Kirby said intelligence to locate Hamas leaders was already being given to Israel.
“We could also, in fact, help them target the leaders, including [Hamas leader Yahya] Sinwar, which we are, frankly, doing with the Israelis on an ongoing basis,” Kirby said.
The Israeli army stormed and seized the Rafah border crossing with Egypt last week in an operation reportedly aimed at pressuring Hamas in ongoing truce negotiations. It has since been indiscriminately bombarding the city, killing dozens of civilians, including children, and forcibly displacing tens of thousands. Israeli troops are now penetrating into eastern Rafah.
Israel has been claiming for months that Rafah is Hamas’ final stronghold, and has long been promising an invasion there, despite the fact that the group’s armed wing and other factions remain entrenched across the strip.
