Yemen: Israel Confirms Airstrikes Targeting Yemen's Hodeidah Port
The official spokesperson for the Houthis, Nasruddin Amer, described the Israel iairstrike on the oil tanks and power facility at Hodeidah port as "a brutal act of aggression against Yemen aimed at worsening the suffering of its people and pressuring Yemen to halt its support for Gaza."
The Israeli military announced that it carried out strikes on the Red Sea port city of Hodeidah in Yemen earlier on Saturday.
In a post on X, Amer dismissed the strike as an "unrealistic Israeli fantasy" and asserted that it would only strengthen the Yemeni people's resolve and their support for Gaza.
He added, "The Yemeni people are prepared to confront any challenges in their fight for the oppressed Palestinian cause and the people of Gaza, whose struggle is the most just on earth."

The language in Harris’ own statement was intended to show her plans to “fight for the nomination,” a senior Democratic adviser close to Harris says.
Biden has Dropped Out of the Race. What Happens Next?
The Democratic Party will now need to choose a new nominee, without the typical series of primaries and caucuses that allow a broad swath of Americans to make their opinions known.
That decision will ultimately be made by the roughly 4,700 delegates to the Democratic National Convention. Either during a virtual roll call, which is tentatively planned for early August, or at the convention in Chicago beginning August 19, these delegates will select any eligible candidate to be the party’s nominee.
After the delegates elect a presidential nominee, a vice presidential nominee will also be selected. These names will then be printed on the ballot in every state and Washington, DC.
It’s important to keep in mind that modern party rules were largely designed to pass this process off to primary voters and then hold an orderly roll call vote to confirm their choice of nominee.
So while it’s clear that this responsibility will now fall to the convention delegates, it’s likely the party will need to do more work, either through interpretation of its existing rules, or by passing new ones, to clarify some of the exact details.
In the end, the Democratic National Convention is the ultimate arbiter of the rules, so a majority of delegates to that convention are free to change this process as they see fit

Ministry Of Truth: Japan’s Communications Ministry Proposes Disinformation Law
Only recently, the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), an influential Washington think tank, outlined how the US and Japan could bolster their cooperation in “combating misinformation.”
In areport, CSIS noted almost in passing that Japan has in general fallen behind in this activity, but also that the group’s representatives had meetings with officials in Tokyo.
Coincidentally or not, news out of Japan this week says that the country’s Internal Affairs and Communications Ministry is looking at introducing new “anti-disinformation measures.” And, a draft report notes that here, “efforts are not sufficient” while transparency and accountability (ostensibly on the part of internet companies) have not been “adequate.”
That would suggest yet another “Ministry of Truth” and “disinformation law” are in the making somewhere in the world, these taking shape as a draft report details possible measures that social media companies would have to adhere to, going forward.
Thereport, which notably comes from the Interior Ministry (also in charge of Communications), speaks about the necessity of companies behind social platforms setting up “counter-disinformation systems” themselves, that would deal with what is deemed to be “disinformation” by deleting this content, but also, stepping up “screening of advertisers.”

Only recently, the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), an influential Washington think tank, outlined how the US and Japan could bolster their cooperation in “combating misinformation.”
In areport, CSIS noted almost in passing that Japan has in general fallen behind in this activity, but also that the group’s representatives had meetings with officials in Tokyo.
Coincidentally or not, news out of Japan this week says that the country’s Internal Affairs and Communications Ministry is looking at introducing new “anti-disinformation measures.” And, a draft report notes that here, “efforts are not sufficient” while transparency and accountability (ostensibly on the part of internet companies) have not been “adequate.”
That would suggest yet another “Ministry of Truth” and “disinformation law” are in the making somewhere in the world, these taking shape as a draft report details possible measures that social media companies would have to adhere to, going forward.
Thereport, which notably comes from the Interior Ministry (also in charge of Communications), speaks about the necessity of companies behind social platforms setting up “counter-disinformation systems” themselves, that would deal with what is deemed to be “disinformation” by deleting this content, but also, stepping up “screening of advertisers.”
