Iraqi Government Calls On Resistance Factions To 'Lay Down Arms'
The Islamic Resistance in Iraq (IRI) announced it would stop targeting Israel following the announcement of a ceasefire in Gaza
Iraq is trying to convince armed factions from the Islamic Resistance in Iraq (IRI) to disband and join the government's official security forces, Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein said on 17 January while speaking with Reuters.
“Many political leaders, many political parties started to raise a discussion, and I hope that we can convince the leaders of these groups to lay down their arms, and then to be part of the armed forces under the responsibility of the government,” Hussein said.
The IRI, which enjoys support from Iran, consists of several armed factions that oppose the US military presence in Iraq and Syria and have fired rockets and drones at Israel in support of Palestinians suffering a genocide in Gaza.
The pressure comes as regional resistance to Israel has been severely weakened following Israel's war on Lebanon and the toppling of the Syrian government of former president Bashar al-Assad by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), the former Al-Qaeda affiliate in Syria.
Pressure to dismantle resistance to Israel is set to ramp up following the inauguration of Donald Trump as US president.

These Billionaires, Companies And Investors—elon Musk, Kevin O’leary And More—could Buy Tiktok As Ban Looms
The AI search engine startup Perplexity AI has reportedly submitted a bid to merge with TikTok, as other companies and billionaires have rumored to be, or have expressed in, buying ByteDance’s popular social media app to prevent a looming ban, which is set to go in effect Sunday.
"Shark Tank" investor Kevin O'Leary said he put up $20 billion for the app.
Perplexity AI submitted an offer to ByteDance to merge the company with TikTok and New Capital Partners, in a deal that would allow for most of ByteDance’s investors to retain their equity stakes, a source familiar with the situation told CNBC .
Chinese government officials have considered selling TikTok’s U.S. operations to Tesla CEO Elon Musk as China discusses navigating a relationship with President-elect Donald Trump, whose ties to Musk have tightened in recent months, Bloomberg reported (ByteDance, responding to Bloomberg’s report, told Forbes it “can’t be expected to comment on pure fiction.”)
YouTuber MrBeast , whose real name is Jimmy Donaldson, wrote on X he would “buy TikTok so it doesn’t get banned,” later claiming he had “so many billionaires” reach out to him and said he would “see if we can pull this off.”

⭕️ Giora Eiland, architect of the 'Generals' Plan': Hamas won.
In a striking admission during a press conference broadcast on Channel 12, Maj. Gen. (res.) Giora Eiland confessed that Israel lost the war in Gaza and failed to achieve its strategic objectives. Eiland, the architect of the brutal 'Generals' Plan,' acknowledged that Hamas not only survived Israel's campaign but emerged stronger, solidifying its control over Gaza. He described the outcome as a "resounding failure" for Israel and added that there will be no renewal of the war.
The 'Generals' Plan,' which is said to have been devised to dismantle Hamas’s power, relied on inhumane measures: starving Gaza’s population, exterminating resistance, and forcibly displacing civilians from northern Gaza to isolate resistance fighters. This ruthless "surrender or starve" approach turned mass suffering into a weapon of war. However, Eiland admitted that the plan disastrously backfired, with Israel unable to prevent Hamas from regrouping and rearming under the terms of the ceasefire.
Eiland also pointed to critical strategic missteps made months before the war, suggesting that these decisions doomed Israel’s efforts from the outset.
