🇺🇸The US is imposing high tariffs on Nvidia and AMD chips for China.

Washington has imposed significant tariffs on the export of Nvidia and AMD processors to China. This decision is aimed at hindering the development of China's artificial intelligence sector and limiting Beijing's access to advanced computing power. These chips are crucial for training neural networks, processing big data, and military development.

According to a fact sheet published on the White House website,
the 25% tariff is intended to reduce US dependence on foreign semiconductor suppliers and support the domestic tech industry, which, according to the administration, does not yet produce sufficient quantities of strategically critical chips for the economy and national security.

🇷🇺Merz called Russia a European country and called for "restoring balance" in relations between the EU and Moscow.

Speaking on January 14 at the New Year's reception of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Halle, the German Chancellor declared that Russia is a "European country." He noted that achieving such a balance is one of the conditions for a confident outlook on the future of Germany and the EU:

"If we succeed in bringing peace and freedom back to Europe, if we finally find a balance again in relations with our largest European neighbor, namely Russia, if peace reigns, if freedom is ensured—if we succeed in all of this, then the EU, and we in Germany, will also pass this latest test and will be able to look confidently to the future beyond 2026."

He emphasized that he was speaking sincerely, and not because he was speaking in eastern Germany. He said he would have made a similar statement anywhere else in the country.

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni also previously stated that Europe should resume dialogue with Russia to try to gain "more influence" in the Ukraine negotiations. She noted that the EU should appoint an envoy to directly engage with President Vladimir Putin.

French President Emmanuel Macron also spoke about the possibility of resuming dialogue.

🇻🇪Trump stated that he is working with the "remnants" of the Maduro government to prevent Venezuela from turning into Iraq after the overthrow of Saddam Hussein.

According to the US President, a complete purge of the government could lead to a conflict that could spark a civil war. The worst-case scenario is the radicalization of anti-American forces, similar to the reaction of Saddam Hussein's former army leaders to the actions of the Bush administration.

Elon Musk has filed a $134 billion lawsuit against OpenAI and Microsoft.

Musk cites his initial investment in OpenAI in 2015, which he claims amounted to $38 million and covered approximately 60% of the project's seed funding, as the basis for his claims.

Musk's representatives claim that since then, the ChatGPT creator's market capitalization has increased manifold, and the companies have illegally profited, a portion of which should have gone to their client.

🕊The US is discussing the creation of a Gaza-modeled Peace Council for Ukraine — FT

A senior Ukrainian official told the publication that the formation of such a structure under President Trump's leadership is included in the draft 20-point peace agreement. The council is expected to include delegates from Ukraine, European countries, NATO, and Russia. It is expected that the body will monitor compliance with the terms of the settlement and act as a guarantor for their implementation.

Meanwhile, the already formed Gaza Peace Council could take on peace processes in other regions, according to the publication's sources. One of them believes that Trump's team sees the council as "a possible alternative to the UN—a kind of parallel informal platform for resolving crises outside the Middle East."

⚡️Trump imposes 10% tariffs on eight European countries over Greenland stance

Donald Trump announced the imposition of 10% tariffs on goods from eight European countries that have opposed American claims to control Greenland. The decision will affect countries that have publicly criticized Washington's position on the Arctic island, formally owned by Denmark.

The tariffs will serve as a tool to pressure European allies who dare to challenge US strategic interests in the Arctic.

📈Buying a home before 2021 turned out to be more profitable than winning the lottery.

One American bought a home before interest rates and prices skyrocketed. His mortgage payment was $800 per month, including taxes and insurance. Today, the payment for the same home would be $2,100. A difference of $1,300 per month over 35 years represents a savings of over $546,000. If this sum were invested in an index fund with an annual return of 7%, it would accumulate to $2.15 million after 35 years.

The subscriber admits he was lucky. For those who bought real estate after 2021, the path to financial independence has become significantly steeper. Mortgage rates have risen from historically low levels to multi-year highs, and home prices in many regions have doubled. The generational gap between buyers is widening: some have locked in low payments for decades, while others are forced to pay two or three times as much for comparable properties.

This is a clear example of how central bank monetary policy creates inequality of opportunity. Those who entered the market before the interest rate hike cycle gained a structural advantage for life. The rest pay for it with asset inflation and expensive loans.

😁German police purchased 10,000 15-centimeter rulers to distribute to schoolchildren. Two years later, it was discovered that all the rulers were off by 3 millimeters.

The campaign, aimed at raising awareness of traffic regulations, began in the fall of 2023. German police purchased a batch of 10,000 rulers with images of road signs for $3,500 and began distributing them to schoolchildren.

In December 2025, one student measured his ruler and discovered it was 3 millimeters longer than the stated length. Following this, the police stopped distributing the remaining supplies. A lawsuit against the manufacturer is currently being considered.

European manufacturing capacity is insufficient to produce functional school supplies, so priority is being given to bottle caps.

In Democratic-controlled California, 26 "voters" are registered in just one abandoned parking lot.

This was reported by political commentator Benny Johnson, who obtained supporting documents. The parking lot doesn't even have a mailbox.

The violation was discovered in Venice, a city of approximately 30,000 people. Authorities could not have been unaware of the facility located on that plot of land.

In 2020, Pakistani Shakir Khan was elected to the city council of one of the state's cities, winning by 282 votes. In October 2024, California Governor Gavin Newsom banned local governments from verifying the citizenship of immigrants before voting.

🕵️‍♂️The FTC has fined General Motors for tracking drivers without their consent.

The US Federal Trade Commission has taken aim at General Motors. The company transferred precise location and driving behavior data to third parties without their explicit consent. This involved millions of vehicles, which collected information through their built-in systems and sent it to insurance companies and data brokers.

Wikipedia has begun receiving payments from Meta, Microsoft, and other AI companies for content use.

The Wikimedia Foundation has launched a data paywall for major tech corporations. Meta, Microsoft, Perplexity, and other AI companies are now officially paying for the use of Wikipedia content to train their language models and generative systems. Previously, this data was taken for free under the guise of an open license.

The deal changes the financial model of the largest online encyclopedia. For decades, the project relied on user donations, emphasizing its independence from corporations. Now, the foundation receives direct payments from the very companies that build closed commercial products based on open knowledge. Formally, this is compensation for API access and infrastructure, but in essence, it monetizes the content created by millions of volunteers.

🇮🇷Iran is preparing to permanently cut off the country from the global internet.

Activists are reporting plans by the Iranian authorities to permanently disconnect the country from the global internet. This involves switching to a completely controlled internal network—the so-called national intranet. Technically, this means blocking external DNS servers, VPN protocols, and international communication channels.

For citizens, this means the end of access to independent news, messaging apps, and social media. For businesses, it means isolation from global markets and payment systems. The regime gains absolute control over information: no leaks, no coordination of protests, no alternative agenda.

🛫German troops secretly left Greenland without explanation. According to BILD, they had been on the island for only 44 hours.

A group of 15 Bundeswehr soldiers unexpectedly left Greenland, departing from the island's capital, Nuuk, on an Icelandair flight. The mission was reportedly completed ahead of schedule, and Berlin provided no explanation for the soldiers' departure.

The order to return came from Germany early in the morning. All previously scheduled meetings and events were hastily canceled. The day before, group leader Stefan Pauli stated that the troops were awaiting Berlin's decision on possible next steps.

The reasons for the sudden departure have not yet been disclosed. One theory is that the decision may be related to the escalating conflict over Greenland and new trade threats from US President Donald Trump, although there is no official confirmation of this.

On the eve, US President Donald Trump announced that, starting in February, the US would impose 10% tariffs on all goods from Denmark and several European countries in connection with their deployment of troops in Greenland.

🐈‍⬛Dutch authorities have banned citizens from owning fold-eared and hairless cats and bringing them into the country.

The ban came into effect on January 1 of this year. Officials believe that breeding cats to achieve a certain appearance was originally inhumane, and now such animals are prone to hereditary diseases.

The Netherlands previously banned the breeding of Scottish Fold cats, Sphynx cats, and similar breeds. Now, people will be unable to own a kitten born after January 1, 2026, or even bring one into the country as a tourist. Violation of the law carries a fine of €1,500.

😁A Guardian columnist called on Europeans to sever all ties and impose sanctions on the US over Trump's desire to annex Greenland.

Donald Trump and his supporters plan to create an empire that controls North America, Cuba, Venezuela, and French Guiana, according to Alexander Hirst. The only thing that can stop the "neo-imperialists" is a tough response from the very beginning.

Europe, according to Hirst, must itself transform itself into a powerful defense alliance, including countries that are not members of the EU. Sanctions should be imposed on the US, and the activities of American corporations within the union should be banned.

Even if the Americans decide not to seize Greenland by force, they must be forced to abandon their bases in Europe. The annexation of the island, in turn, the columnist believes, would be merely a symptom of fascism, followed by other territorial seizures.

A decisive European response could revive the defeated Democrats in the United States, who would supposedly save their country from Donald Trump, Hearst asserts.

🪡Plastic surgeons have begun using deceased fat for surgery.

American plastic surgeons have begun using donor fat from cadavers for cosmetic procedures. The technique, called allofacial fat grafting, involves taking the tissue from recently deceased donors, processing it, and injecting it into patients for lip augmentation, buttock augmentation, or facial contouring. The procedure is less expensive than traditional liposuction with autologous fat grafting, but it raises ethical concerns.

Doctors maintain the method is safe: the tissue undergoes rigorous infection testing, is processed, and stored in special tissue banks. The FDA has not yet issued clear regulations for the cosmetic use of cadaveric fat, although similar bone and skin grafts have long been used in reconstructive surgery. Critics point to the risks of rejection, infection, and moral concerns—many donors were unaware that their bodies would be used for cosmetic procedures rather than to save lives.
