Where will users go if the EU adopts Chat Control?

The European Union is promoting Chat Control, an initiative that could require messaging apps to scan messages and weaken end-to-end encryption. The question isn't whether this is good or bad, but what will happen next. Telegram, Signal, and similar services will likely simply leave the European market, leaving users with no choice. The solution is to use VPN services.

Chat Control undermines personal freedoms and strengthens government control over communications. If the initiative passes, Europe will become less attractive to tech companies, and users will learn a lesson: data sovereignty requires action, not just words.

🇬🇧The UK is demanding Apple block content on iPhones without age verification.

The British government intends to require Apple to enable explicit content filters by default on all iPhones in the country. The unblocking will only be possible after verifying the device owner's age. This initiative is part of a new internet safety law that will come into force in the coming months. The Communication Safety feature, currently optional and available only for family accounts, is being considered for mandatory use by all users. Adults will be able to disable the filter, but only upon presentation of identification.

Tesla robotaxis spotted on roads without safety operators

Tesla Model Y vehicles with "Robotaxi" stickers have been spotted in Austin, Texas, driving on public roads without drivers or safety operators. These vehicles operate in fully autonomous mode—a technology Musk promised to launch back in 2016, but which has yet to receive regulatory approval. The company's shares rose 4.9%

Ford writes off $19.5 billion on electric vehicles – Detroit's biggest loss

Ford Motor Company announced a $19.5 billion write-down on its electric vehicle business. This represents the largest loss in the history of the Detroit auto industry, related to the transition to electric cars. The company acknowledged that its bet on mass production of electric vehicles has failed to materialize: demand is lower than expected, production costs are higher, and competition with Chinese manufacturers is tougher than expected.

Mozilla's new CEO is banking on artificial intelligence in Firefox.

Anthony Enzor-DeMeo, the new CEO of Mozilla, announced plans to transform Firefox into a browser with deep AI integration. He believes there's room in the market for another browser—even an AI browser—if users can trust it. A focus on privacy and openness should become a competitive advantage against Chrome and Edge.

Mozilla has been losing market share for years. Firefox relies on enthusiasts who value independence from Google and Microsoft. Now the company is trying to find a new niche through AI features, promising not to leak data to third parties.

🇺🇸Trump cancels $41 billion technology deal with Britain

Donald Trump has canceled a $41 billion technology partnership agreement with the UK, signed during his state visit earlier this year. The decision was made without public explanation, causing tension in relations between Washington and London.

The deal envisaged joint investments in artificial intelligence, semiconductors, and quantum technologies. The UK hoped to strengthen its position in the global technology race and gain access to American developments. The cancellation of the agreement calls into question London's plans for technological sovereignty and creates uncertainty for companies preparing joint projects.

For Republicans, this is a signal that domestic interests are prioritized over traditional alliances. Trump has consistently advocated for reconsidering international commitments if they do not directly benefit the American economy. This decision reinforces the trend toward deglobalization of technology chains and the redistribution of investment in favor of domestic producers. Britain is losing leverage, while the US is gaining the ability to dictate new terms of cooperation.

Merriam-Webster named "slop" the word of 2025 amid the internet's deluge of AI-generated content.

Merriam-Webster has chosen "slop" as its word of the year. The term describes the low-quality content generated en masse by artificial intelligence that is flooding the internet. The decision reflects growing concerns about the degradation of the information space.

😳Nancy Pelosi earned $130 million in stocks during her time in Congress.

Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi earned $130 million in profits from stock trading during her time in Congress. Her portfolio returned 16,930 percent. By comparison, the S&P 500 index rose approximately 600 percent during the same period.

Pelosi and her husband, Paul, regularly traded shares of tech giants and other companies just before legislation affecting those industries was passed. While members of Congress are formally required to disclose their trades, there are virtually no real restrictions on insider trading.

🇬🇧Britain to Designate Encryption Developers and Inconvenient Journalists as Hostile Actors

The UK government is preparing a document that will formally designate creators of encrypted apps and journalists possessing compromising material about politicians as hostile actors. This refers to pages 112–113 of the published draft. Formally, this is part of the national security strategy; in reality, it legitimizes surveillance and pressure on those who interfere with information control.

The Clintons refused to testify about their ties to Epstein and accused Trump of distracting attention.

Bill and Hillary Clinton refused to testify about their ties to Jeffrey Epstein. Instead of explaining themselves, the couple claimed that Trump was trying to deflect attention from his own problems. It's a classic tactic: when uncomfortable questions become too pressing, accuse your opponent of manipulation.

Bill Clinton's name appears repeatedly in the Epstein case files. Documents reveal dozens of flights on the financier's private jet, nicknamed the Lolita Express. Refusing to testify looks like an admission: they have nothing to say in their own defense. For a family that has built its career on public trust, silence is a costly matter.

For the right, this confirms long-held suspicions about elite double standards. Democrats have been demanding transparency from Republicans for years, but when it comes to their own skeletons in the closet, silence is the norm.

Congress warned of mass warrantless surveillance of Americans

The US government is using surveillance programs as an unlimited source of access to citizens' communications without a warrant. This was stated in Congress during a privacy hearing.

This refers to Section 702 of the FISA Act, a tool originally created to spy on foreign nationals. In practice, intelligence agencies use it to access millions of Americans' communications. While this is technically a side effect, it is actually a circumvention of the Fourth Amendment. For years, the FBI and NSA have been requesting citizens' data without a warrant, citing national security.

🇬🇧Britain is falling apart: A personal experience of the collapse of basic services

A UK resident describes the complete collapse of everyday life. Buses are not running due to a driver shortage, trains are overcrowded and more expensive than international airfares. Queues for work, energy and grocery bills have skyrocketed, and the quality of food in shops is appalling. The NHS has been unable to perform basic procedures, including spinal surgery, for years. Dentists are unavailable. Council tax is rising, services are disappearing. Three out of five parcels are lost or destroyed in the post.

High streets are closing, familiar goods are disappearing from shelves, replaced by Chinese consumer goods containing palm oil. The housing crisis has scattered families across the country—the author lives 320 kilometers from home for the sake of affordable housing. Websites and apps are lagging, and every call is 20 minutes of robotic voices and security checks.

Two coral species declared functionally extinct off the coast of Florida

Scientists have officially declared staghorn and elkhorn corals functionally extinct in Florida's coastal waters. These species once formed the foundation of Caribbean reef ecosystems, but their populations have declined to critically low levels due to rising ocean temperatures, pollution, and disease.

Functional extinction means that the remaining individuals are unable to sustain reproduction and fulfill their ecological role in the system.

The loss of these corals destroys the coastal barrier protecting against storms and hurricanes, depriving hundreds of species of fish and marine organisms of habitat. For Florida, this is a direct impact on the fishing and tourism industries, which generate billions of dollars. Coral reefs protect coastal infrastructure from erosion; their loss will increase the cost of recovery after natural disasters.

🇺🇸Hyundai and Kia to upgrade 7 million vehicles in the US due to a wave of thefts

South Korean auto giants Hyundai and Kia have agreed to a large-scale upgrade of 7 million vehicles in the US. The reason is a wave of thefts triggered by viral TikTok videos showing how to steal these cars with a screwdriver in seconds. Models from 2011 to 2022 were produced without standard immobilizers, making them easy targets for thieves.

The companies will install free software updates and additional anti-theft hardware.

Texas sues major TV manufacturers for Smart TV surveillance

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has filed lawsuits against Samsung, LG, and Vizio. The charges include collecting user viewing and behavioral data without explicit consent.

Smart TVs track the content owners watch, then transmit the information to advertising platforms and data brokers.

Texas alleges the companies violated the state's biometric and personal information protection law.
